The bees now control the cabana

That's right... in a world where honeybees are having problems, my apartment building has their back.

Two colonies of Apis cerana indica have established hives in the mangroves at the end of the cricket pitch. Residents are requested to not drink sweet beverages at the cabana, as it attracts the bees. The intramural cricket match scheduled for this weekend has been postponed.

(Also: "cabana" means the two picnic tables with umbrellas that nobody sits at, and "cricket pitch" means a soccer field-sized hunk of turf with a dirt strip in the middle.)

It is a bee hive that is in your window, and it drains out of a spout!
I think it actually an amazing idea. Not sure if the warm heat inside would mess with the bees in winter.

Any sweet scent attracts them, so easy on perfumes

Light colored clothing. From their pov, dark colors mean hostile mammals

If one lands on you or doing recon around you, do not swat at it or makes quick movements. Keep cool and don't threaten. She isn't interested in committing suicide.

If you are stung, scratch out the barb and apply an ice cube or pack. That will help with the pain and swelling.

Leave the hives alone. They will go to Defcon One if they perceive the queen is threaten.

If at all possible.

Last year, we discovered a wild hive in our yard, in a place where it was impossible to stay, for safety reasons.
We called for a humane removal, but when it was discovered how huge the thing actually was, they had to exterminate.

I've been upset about it ever since.
