My husband retired January 2015. He told them in October he was quitting full time the end of December. He was talked into staying on part time and worked through January - until both managers of the local stores were fired and led out of the stores escorted by security brought in just for that purpose. My husband came home, called in and quit.

Then he found out that the managers never turned his resignation, never switched him over to part time, nothing. It delayed rolling over his 401k, delayed getting his final payment, and they continued charging him for insurance for over a month after he retired.

So tell your wife to keep after HR until she is certain the paperwork was put through properly!

I hope her retirement goes more smoothly than my husband's did. And I hope she enjoys it as much as my husband is enjoying his retirement.
