I can remember the dreaded days of summer when Polio stalked the country. Dr. Salk was rightly hailed as a true hero and savior.

(62,387 posts)mostly I remember my parents being so scared one of their kids or the neighbor kids would get polio.
I also remember the feeling of relief when the Salk vaccine was finally distributed and we got our shots. OMG were my parents ever relieved

(28,940 posts)One of the very few times my mother showed any fear - summer, polio season.
When the vax came out, I think my feet hit the ground twice between home and the doctor's office.
The good old days weren't.
