(31,318 posts)I love hearing stories about writers--of all kinds--FINALLY getting noticed and paid for the time, effort, struggle devoted
to polishing their craft over many years.
We'll look forward to hearing about the release dates of these movies!

Before you spend more than a few bucks of your new found and hard earned wealth, please consult a tax advisor. If you're in Los Angeles, I have the best one you could ever want. Also hire her or a very well regarded financial & investment advisor. The most important thing you can do is consider all possible legal tax avoidance devices available or you're going to be paying a LOT of taxes on that next year.
Watch. Your. Money. Like. A. Hawk. Do not, I repeat, do NOT trust any one person or agency with overseeing your investments, residuals, that 5% of the profits, and any money coming to you or being spent on your behalf. Please don't just sit back and assume anyone is trustworthy, whether it's your agent, the studios or even your housekeeper. Yes, I'm being cynical, but it's from personal experience and vicarious experience; anyone that can, will take as much as they can, whenever they can. Don't let your own trust and lack of knowledge cost you money. This is Hollywood. Been there, done that, should have written a book!
I hope you're all lawyered up on your scripts as well. A well reputed lawyer should review any writer's agreements you make with agents, studios, etc. If you need one, I have a good one of those in LA too.
So go on out and celebrate!!! But keep your eye on the business of being in The Business!

(3,839 posts)My wife (Chinese national) is a hawk like that. She trusts no one. She won't even tell her parents because for that reason.
I am watching everything like a hawk. I have a good accountant.
The only person I trust is my wife because we were married before this happened and she isn't with me because of it.
I am lawyered up really well.
Everything you said, I either have or plan on doing soon. When my wife gets to KL with me, I going to smoke the fattest cohiba I can find and buy her the ruby ring she's always wanted.
