aside from typing or texting?
I'm going to walk but it's too hot outside so I'll head over to the gym. It'll be boring but comfortable.
What are you doing today?
CBGLuthier
(12,723 posts)This is done in two walks, the first one is always three and the second one is one or two.
Doing this for the last few years has helped me to lose about 70 pounds, keep it off, and gives me a resting heart rate of 59.
Phentex
(16,330 posts)I just can't do that right now without fear of a stroke. But I am heat intolerant.
CBGLuthier
(12,723 posts)I did use to live in Oklahoma until the end of last year, where I had to walk very early in the day and very late in the day in Summer or suffer mightily but even Summer where I am now, Mauritius, does not get much over the high 80s.
Phentex
(16,330 posts)I'm ready for fall here. But I gotta survive the rest of July and August.
hlthe2b
(102,119 posts)I have lost more than 50 pounds the past year and to date (since August 31), have walked 2,260 miles per fitbit. I have yet to miss a day, rain or (heavy snow) and slather on the mosquito repellent to walk early in the AM or late PM in the hot summer time.
Of course, I have to credit my very very very active doggy companion--who keeps me motivated!
CBGLuthier
(12,723 posts)OK, she was his to start with but I took him for a few a day. I found it harder to leave my Sammy than my parents.
hlthe2b
(102,119 posts)Sammy needs to come back for summer vacation!
Phentex
(16,330 posts)I don't mind walking in the rain. Can't say I get the chance to walk in the snow.
hlthe2b
(102,119 posts)Snow can be all kinds of things... peaceful when it is blanketing without a lot of wind, gorgeous the next day when the sun comes out, and honestly, pretty horrendous when it is accompanied by heavy biting winds sending frozen icy sleet into your face. But, I've learned to cope! I do love the change in seasons and getting out in even the worst weather beats cabin fever, I think.
pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)Dead lifts, presses, curls, I do them all. My workout is so rigorous, with numerous repetitions, that by the end I know I'm done and I don't really need to put any potatoes in them, after all.

(16,330 posts)an indoor bike is all I'll ever know.
Tripper11
(4,338 posts)Then later today, ride my exercise bike for about a half an hour. I've been trying to incorporate movement back in my life after a long period of laziness and "too busy for that" type life. Plus I need it to lose weight and get things back under control.
Phentex
(16,330 posts)I miss having one to walk right now.
I don't know why it is so easy to fall into that "I don't feel like it today" mode but for me it is! I do better when I just keep doing something every day. I feel better, too.
I'm trying to do stuff like park farther away from the store and stuff like that.

I try to walk a mile several times a week when the weather cooperates.

(16,330 posts)Last summer I just rode an indoor exercise bike or did nothing.
I hate yard work. My sister loves it and loves it when the weather is blazing hot. It's work!!!

I first hang upside on my inversion for about 10 minutes.
I then lift weights for about 20 minutes.
After that, I do 1,500 sit ups on a slant board. I rigged up a 20 pound weight on a pulley with a belt that I wrap around my chest to add a little resistance as I do the sit ups. It's a good workout.
I finish it all up with a 45 minute ride on my exercise bike.
All in all, it takes about two hours to complete.
Phentex
(16,330 posts)I thought about it a few weeks ago. Have yet to get started. I don't know why!!!!
I bet you feel great with your workout. I don't seem to have a routine but I try to do something every day.
Tom_Foolery
(4,691 posts)I suffer from depression, and the exercise helps keeps the "beast" at bay. I'm 54 and take no medication of any kind. I've been working out for a long time. When you get started on your sit ups, do it slowly at first. It will eventually become a habit.

Phentex
(16,330 posts)I am thinking of swimming at the gym. I need to give my poor knees a break sometimes.
JustABozoOnThisBus
(23,321 posts)Walked about two miles around the neighborhood, then played (walked) nine holes of golf. Now I have to do some shoveling in the backyard. I hope my shovel hits a pot of gold, but unlikely. I have dug up some trash from when the house was built, in the 1920s, so that was pretty neat, if monetarily not as good as gold.
But first, a cuppa coffee and a doughnut. All things in moderation.
Sanity Claws
(21,840 posts)or maybe more accurately, splish-splashing in a local public swimming pool. It is set aside for lap swimming from 7 to 8:30 PM. With temps expected to be around 90 at that time, it'll be ideal to go to the pool
Phentex
(16,330 posts)I could swim outdoors but I hate the sun. I'm thinking of trying the pool at the gym.
Have fun!

(19,089 posts)I use a pedometer, and average about 12,000 steps per day - about six miles per day ...
I have been using dumbbells for upper body development (re development) ... I'll do about a half hour of dumbbell exercises tonight ...

(16,330 posts)Up and down the stairs. Vacuuming, reaching, mopping. It can be quite a workout.

(16,373 posts)After vacuuming, mopping, and scrubbing out bathrooms I feel like I've a few miles.
Just wondering: Wouldn't it be better to cuddle with your boa AFTER you feed her??
Rhythm
(5,435 posts)... there's a risk of her regurgitating if she's handled too much right after...
She's docile and easily handled, even when she's hungry... so some time-out of her tank is a good thing.
She may even get to go swim in the bath-tub!
Later, she gets moved into her 'feeding tank' -- a large, clear plastic, lidded storage tub... so if she misses when she goes to strike-at her prey, she won't get a bloody-nose on the sidewall (like she might on glass).
Afterward, however, she needs to be put back promptly in her habitat, so she can find a dark, quiet spot, and begin to digest her meal.

(6,671 posts)it is a little bit harder when it is very hot and humid, especially early in the mornings.
Sometimes, if I am at 9,000 steps, I'll jog inside the house, around the kitchen and living room, until I get 10,000. I always wonder if neighbors across the street can look into our house and see me doing some weird stuff, like Elaine (Seinfeld) dance moves ... I'll do it anyways until my Fitbit buzzes when I reached the 10,000.
I am 7,933 right now at 6:15 pm and should get there by the time I get to bed

No public swimming pool or gym nearby. Heat indices of 104 to 107 this week, according to the local weatherman.
Ninety-six to ninety-nine degrees plus serious humuggity.
Late evening after sunset I go outside and water the plants when it's still about 90.
Staying inside in the air conditioning and drinking lots of decaf iced tea.

CrawlingChaos
(1,893 posts)Normally I like to workout like a boxer, with a strong focus on jump rope, but right now I have a boo-boo in my foot so I had to use my elliptical. I thank the gods for that thing because I have all these little nagging injuries that haunt me (shin splints, torn achilles, a lisfranc injury, a morton's neuroma... most of it comes from the literally thousands of hours of jump rope I have done). Thanks to the elliptical, I can do intense cardio (right to my near-barfing max) without aggravating all my issues when they're acting up.
So I did 40 minutes on the elliptical followed by full body strength training. For that I like to stick to big compound movements like push-ups, squats, lunges, bench step-ups... all that fun stuff. I just want to get the job done quickly as I feel I've maxed out my potential strength-wise and am just looking to maintain. I do strength training twice a week and cardio every day -- longer cardio on the days without strength training.
I really hate working out but I know I'll never stop - the benefits are just too huge. In addition to all the obvious ones, it really helps me manage my anxiety without drugs.

(1,681 posts)Today is chest/back/shoulders day
45 minutes on the elliptical - that burns about 500+ calories
And going to try a kettlebell complex to change things up a bit. So far my strength has increased, my pant size has dropped & others are noticing my small improvements. So far, so good.

(38,506 posts)My doctor said I can't do any big exercise until it is healed up.
I am bored because of that, so I may sneak over to the gym and lift some barbells anyway. At least that doesn't put any stress on my legs.
NJCher
(35,619 posts)I read where 30" a day 5 days a week is beneficial in preventing high blood pressure, diabetes, etc., so I invented this routine where I race around doing 25" inside the house and 25" outside the house. That's 20" more than the minimum requirement.
Here's what I do outside, 5" each. I use a timer:
trim
weed
feed (like compost bushes, plants, etc.)
seed
clean (like rake leaves, whatever)
inside:
clean (like vacuum)
scrub (like scrub a floor)
throw stuff out (run around throwing out anything that needs it)
move (as in move stuff that's being reorganized, like winter clothes to the attic, put tools away, etc.)
wild card (anything that needs to be done that requires a certain intensity of activity

p.s. and I do a lot of walking all over campus, dragging books, my fan, etc.

(9,527 posts)as well as some shoulder strength/flexibility work, foam rolled, and then did about 75 minutes of strength conditioning like pull ups, calf raises, hanging from bars, tricep dips, a bunch of dragon boards as well as balancing on rails and a bit more stretching.
It was a relatively light day, but after Sunday and Monday which were both much harder days as well as being hotter, I took today relatively easy and Wednesday is my regular rest day so depending on how I feel, I will do something at the gym at work, but probably not too hard.
But I both enjoy working out and need to keep rehabbing my knee as when I stop, it gets worse again, even if it is very frustrating given that the rehab has been going on for more than 7 months and in the best case scenario isn't even half over yet.
