Pet peeve

I have a lot of pet peeves. Which is fine, because they're cheap to feed and otherwise pretty easy to maintain.

Here's one.

I hate it that grocery stores bundle up asparagus and package cherries and then sell by the pound. I mean, really. Have you seen any loose asparagus in the asparagus section that other shoppers might have removed from the bunch because they didn't need so much?

And what about cherries. Don't you feel just a bit self-conscious and maybe rude for emptying the bag of cherries to get the amount you want rather than the amount they package?

I need/want what I can manage, so I have no problem with making a smaller bag for myself. Nervy I guess.

Sorry, store, as a single person I can't expect 4 pounds of cherries to survive. So I thinned it down to 2 pounds. Enjoyed every one.

I used to work in a Produce Department. The asparagus arrives at the store bundled like that, and customers would frequently just take what they wanted. However, if you purchase the whole bundle, you can trim up the ends and stand them up in a small bowl of water to keep it fresh for a few days.

For the cherries, just take any excess and place them in another bag. Even when they are on sale, a full bag may weight 5-6 lbs, so it is understandable that one may not want to purchase an entire bag.

One time I was at this produce stand. One of those on the side of the road. The tomatoes were right there, but the guy working there said he would pick them out. I was caught a little off guard, so asked him why. He just responded that he would pick the good ones, so I left.

Anymore a store will be most accommodating and even expect this. I worked in a grocery store years ago, and we generally accommodated the customer.

As for cherries, I not only dump some out, but I actually go through the entire bag and make sure most of the cherries are good. Yep I am that cheap. It is really worth it to look because these Bing Cherries can really vary. When they are on sale, then they are often very small. They get a run of crap and then put in on sale. It is that way with so many items. You think you're getting the same product when it's regular price, but it's just a bad batch.

I hate it when people leaving rambling messages on my voicemail at work then rush through saying their phone number so I don't get to write it down in time. Then I have to listen to the whole message again. My phone literally rings constantly at my job so I have to check my messages a lot. There are always tons of voicemails waiting for me each morning. Also , people who don't bother to leave a phone number. They just say their name and I have to go through my computer trying to figure out who they are.
