Roger was at his peak of narcissistic, egomaniacal control-freakery in those days. Rick Wright was fired by RW during the sessions for The Wall, Dave was pretty much sidelined and Nick just kept his head down behind his drums.

It took a decade or so before Roger got over his self-importance, and he has mellowed out a lot in the last ten years since that. He clearly was having a blast on stage with the other Floyds at Live8 or whatever it was back in '05.

One thing they also pointed out was the song "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was a tribute to Syd Barrett.

fuckwit from roughly "Animals" until the band broke up.

The story of "Shine On" is fascinating. The lyrics are indeed about Syd, and when they were mixing the track a fat man in a mac with a shaved head and no eyebrows managed to winkle his way into the studio. Roger and Dave both said later they were shocked to realize it was Syd. When asked what he was doing, Syd said he had "showed up to do his bit" and and that he "was eating a lot of pork chops these days." Roger left the mixing room, he said, so he could break down and cry elsewhere and was thoroughly freaked out by the whole experience.

Roger Waters gave an interview to Rolling Stone a few issues back and talked about his problems with Gilmour in depth...apparently they're "ok" now. I may have already seen it, but am interested if I haven't. I love both. Roger was also recently on Howard Stern and gave a great interview....mainly talked about how his Dad died in WW2...really sad stuff and brought back to me so many scenes from The Wall.

We used to see that movie at the "midnight" showings. and more haha
