Winnie

During World War 1, Canadian Army Lieutenant Harry Coleburn bought a bear cub for $20 from a hunter in White River, Ontario. He named her Winnipeg, after his hometown, and smuggled her to England where “Winnie” became the mascot of his regiment. He later donated her to the London Zoo where the son of a local playwright often visited, a boy named Christopher Robin Milne.

Sadly, I don't think Christopher got on well with his father.

Winnie: The True Story of the Bear Who Inspired Winnie-the-Pooh,
I've given it to my daughters, who have baby boys now. It's informative and delightful.

Suggests nothing about Christopher and his father not getting along. His father wrote the stories at Christopher's request.
