today. Mom will be 85 on April 2. I requested the birthday greeting for her about 2 months ago. It is very nice and speaks to her being from a generation who saw much and did much for this country.
I am going to frame the card and envelope.

(4,033 posts)open it. She was very happy. I told her I had requested it for her, because she was a bit confused on how she go it. It's siting on a tablein the living room. When neighbors stop by she will definately show it off.

(4,033 posts)you can request these cards for birthdays 80 on up, for 50th wedding anniversaries and other celebrations. Just go to whitehouse.gov and locate the link for requesting cards/greetings. I think that the white house asks that you make the request at least 6 weeks beforet the date you'd like it.

(332 posts)90th bd. A niece of hers had it sent, niece is a total right wing nut and my mother was a total liberal democratic. Well, it was when Bush was in office and my mother tore it up instantly, LOL!

(6,699 posts)..and she was thrilled! She loved that Obama became our President, and had his birthday card in her room until she passed away last year.
I'm sure W would have sent one too, but it would have hit the round file after she saw who it was from.

(4,033 posts)yesterday I took her about an hour north to a small college (very, very Christian and conservative) only because they had an exhibit of WWII original posters.
An archivist found them sitting in a locked drawer in their original envelopes never opened in 70 + years. She found 175 and they exhibited 40 of them.
Mom really enjoyed her day, culminating with the birthday card in our mailbox when we returned home.
