The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsGoing to NYC next month for 5 days. Need some suggestions.
We're going to stay somewhere near Central Park, in a 4 or 5-star. Thanks Hotwire!
Anyway, I want to go to the best steakhouse. I was thinking Peter Lugar, Sparks, or Keens... I want a picture of me laying in the gutter outside Sparks, ala Paul Castellano, but wouldn't dream of doing something like that (but a boy can dream, can't he?). I'd hang it next to the picture of me standing on a corner in Winslow, AZ though!
We probably won't go to a show on Broadway, as it might be outside our budget. What we've already planned and provided for though is a visit to Ground Zero, a rowboat in Central Park, and a rental car for a day... We're going to Philly for SANDWICHES. We plan on eating at either Pat's or Gino's, then going to the opposition for a cheesesteak to take back to The City with us. On the way back from Philly, we plan to stop in Gettysburg. We also plan on spending an evening with my cousin John Roland, a retired NYC newscaster.
So that leaves MOMA, The Guggenheim, Nathan's Famous, The Staten Island Ferry, and The Statue of Liberty... among others.
We're taking the Redeye from L.A. on Wed, and flying back to L.A. late Monday afternoon.
Suggestions?

(12,272 posts)One thing I remember is that everyone is in a hurry, so don't dawdle, know where you are going and get there efficiently. Also, don't gawk, look up at tall buildings or otherwise, act like a tourist, there are predators that look for tourists.
That said, you mentioned Peter Luger and I was just reading about the restaurant yesterday. It is considered the best steak in America by some, including Gourmet Magazine:
http://www.peterluger.com/gourmet.cfm
That's why Peter Luger, established in Brooklyn in 1887, continues to surprise me. Six recent visits confirmed an impression I'd gathered over the years-and a reputation no one seems willing to dispute: Peter Luger maintains a level of steak quality that is simply unmatched in America.
Read the article at the link, it gives you tips on what to expect like, reservations, for prime time you may have to wait weeks. Also, the menu is bare bones, but everything is the best. You order steak by the number of people in your group and the is no differentiation in cuts. Plus, and this is a biggie, they do not accept credit cards, except their own, Peter Luger card.
