No, I am NOT misspelling it. You go find the website yourself if you want to.
I wonder whether the testimonials are true. Sounds like an -- ummmm -- interesting device. Maybe as a present?
Please research it very delicately and report back.
I am interested in male opinions more than female. If you have one, a quick testimonial would be great. They say they've sold 500,000 of them.
That is all.

(30,884 posts)As in revealing their real names and other identifying info here, and writing threatening PMs. I also heard from one former DUer that she harassed her via late night phone calls. It's up to those DUers to tell their tales here should they choose. She was very internet savvy and IMO earned any "swarming" that she received. Her TS was earned.
For the longest time I thought that she was just an out-of-step older person who was benign until I had a PM conversation with her. End of story. I'm sorry that her demons won and I feel bad for her family, but the truth is that this community enabled her for far too long.

Gormy Cuss
(30,884 posts)Some DUers directly link to info about themselves with real life names attached. Some even have usernames that are their names IRL (think Will Pitt for one.)
For others, it's a bit more difficult but still possible to gather the data crumbs and eventually figure out the person's identity by process of elimination.
I don't know how she did it. I do know that when I was having a cordial PM exchange with her about living in Boston the exchange took a weird turn where she kept asking me for more details about where exactly I had lived, where I worked, etc. It was creepy and stalkerish and I just avoided her questions until she went off on me with a paranoid rant. That was the last PM.

(19,309 posts)She more than likely never intended any of her postings to become comedy gold and legend here at DU, and she most certainly engaged in inappropriate exchanges with some members. However, both her inadvertent comedic offerings and her mean streak come into focus clearer now that it's become understood that she had psychological and emotional issues.
Personally I abhor cyber bullying, but knowing now that she had conditions that were quite possibly beyond her control does allow me to cut her a little slack.

(135,425 posts)could sometimes find herself in situations where she felt piled-upon and did not want to back down. I also think she was misinterpreted and made the object of sport on occasion.
No one is canonizing her, but when someone passes on, it's not uncommon for some people to prefer to remember the good in people. After all, wouldn't we all like to be remembered as our better, rather than our worse, selves?
I have a great deal of empathy for anyone who endures mental health issues. I can't imagine how much courage it takes to face each day while profoundly depressed, in a manic state, or having the balance of one's mind so disturbed that it is difficult to trust one's perceptions. It's got to be a frightening thing, and anyone who has the guts to get up and face each day with that kind of challenge has my respect because that takes a special kind of bravery and fortitude.
hippywife
(22,767 posts)I read some of her threads, but didn't know her or ever interact with her when I was here previously, I'm sorry for the people to whom she may have caused real grief or personal injury of any kind. However, it reminds me that no matter how odd or harsh someone may appear, we don't always know the reasons why. But! All of us are savvy enough to know there have to be reasons. The inability to extend kindness or at the very least tolerance toward someone speaks more loudly, and is more illustrative, of ourselves.
MADem
(135,425 posts)even if I hold my position and vehemently disagree with someone. It's just not worth the expending of psychic energy to be "mad" at someone on the internet. Life is too doggone short!
I just can't understand why people would get so PISSED at the poor old dear. I mean, sure, she could get a little quirky at times, but I put that down to her age and stage of life, and her life experiences. I never had a conversation with her where she got disagreeable with me, but I didn't get into a lot of heavy hoop-la with her, either. In any event, even when one disagrees, it's just not worth it to get so invested that one bursts a blood vessel over a difference of opinion! State your case, agree to disagree, and move on. I think there was a bit of piling on at times; she might not have helped matters by "misinterpreting" intent--but really, why beat up on someone who is old enough to collect social security? It's not worth the loss of "karma" points, IMO. The internet can be like that on occasion--a bit cliquish, a bit Junior High School, and maybe a bit of "Lord of the Flies" at worst.
People come here for a little conversation, fun and exchange of ideas, the drama and agita should be side dishes (at worst!).
I hope they put her name on that memorial page here--particularly after learning that she had mental health challenges as they likely played a role in her departure from this venue.
Life is short--we should enjoy, eh?

She was always kind to me and I am sorry that other people on here have not been able to find it in their hearts to forgive a
mentally ill person. One thing ... she can bother them no longer so maybe they can find peace in that.
Lay people often antagonize the mentally ill and can actually escalate a situation without meaning to.

She planted some memorable threads here on DU and took some things way to the extreme which made her an unforgettable part of this community.
Radio Lady always reminded me of my sister (whom I've never gotten along well with), an indefatigable woman of that pre-Boomer generation who had to fight like hell to best find her way in this world.

(135,425 posts)I had a few chats with her here, like a lot of us did--I happen to be a fan of old radio, and world radio, and she was, after all "Radio Lady." I pictured her as a quirky older lady doing the best she could on the internet. I got the impression she didn't understand the boundaries at times, but I never thought she meant ill.
It's a shame that anyone would want to go like that. Hell, I frigging LOVE life, I love my family, my friends, and even most of my quirky neighbors. I'm not always in the best mood (this winter weather has worn me out), and I have aches, pains, gripes, and whines, just like anyone, but the good bits are always more frequent than the bad ones. I'm not even close to done yet. I can't imagine wanting to leave, and it's just heartbreaking to know that someone saw that as a good option.
