They make some good points, especially the last one, but I know one of the precepts of the World War Z book was that the zombie virus dramatically slowed down any sort of rot/decay.

Gasoline begins to deteriorate after 20 days.
Which is to say, that anyone who bunkers down in a high-zombie zone may be at a major disadvantage because they would have to gather their food and supplies on foot.
Best to high-tail it to a small town in the mountains.
