I'll be headed to the Deep South,
but not quite that far.

(3,275 posts)I have a large Irish family but they live all around the country. I can't afford to travel this year and I have to work the day before and after Christmas anyway. So it will be me, a little black cat, a lot of phone calls to relatives and a movie marathon at home in my pajamas for Christmas.
I'm not complaining. It actually sounds kind of nice. There will be a lot of food in the fridge and I can relax finally.

(16,327 posts)but Mom is now old and cranky, and my sister and I menopausal. We can't seem to all get in the same room together and NOT go off on each other. Makes for either tense or lonely holidays.

(2,959 posts)bread since I will never have holidays with my family again. I have family on the east coast that I don't really know but I'm getting to know some of them.
I was fortunate to have a great group of people in my immediate family and will celebrate them and be greatful for all of the holidays we had together.

(28,394 posts)I used to whine and moan about all the work, but looking back, I really miss those days with the whole family.
Our Christmas this year will be considerably scaled back, but no less heartfelt. If you have family to celebrate with, please cherish them. Even if they are all PITA's!
