Saw the Carolina Chocolate Drops last night. (pics)

It was our second time seeing them live. They played last night at Earlham College here in our hometown of Richmond, Indiana. The first time we ever heard of them was when they opened up for Bob Dylan at a show in Kettering, Ohio last summer. We were very impressed. Here's a pic of Jen and I next to the stage last night. We sat in the second row.

We met one of the members of the group, Hubby, afterward. He was standing out front having a smoke. He was very nice and down to Earth. If you get a chance to see this group, I'd recommend it very much. They play old time black folk music for the most part and they put on an excellent show- lots of energy. Not only are they knowledgeable about their music, but they are also experts on the history of folk music in America and they convey that as a part of their shows. They have a new album coming out on the 28th of this month.

Hubby is the guy on the right. Their web site is at:

Adam Matta was with them for that show and the addition of his beat box rhythm section to the folk music they were playing was something to behold. I think Adam is more of a friend of the band than a member. Last night they had a fourth person with them as well- a young woman playing cello.

Used to always have a pair in the back of the closet for my 'home improvement' jobs.
Helping a friend put up a 60' X 80' pole barn.
Needed some 'work clothes' with pockets and a hammer loop.
Bought a pair of Liberties.

Nothin' like 'em.

I wear them all the time. I'm a trucker and I also have to work on and around the truck. The Liberty bibs are very comfortable to work in. They have sort of become my trademark. People remember me because of them.

My second time seeing them. They are great. Rhiannon has a wonderful voice & is classically trained. Dom is an entertainer through & through.
I loved the cello, but I think we get less jug playing with the cello playing the bass lines.
Can't wait for that new CD.
