(28,394 posts)He also did a TV movie-- might have been with Ellen Burstyn--- about a professor who developed Alzheimer disease. Does anyone remember that one?
Gidney N Cloyd
(19,833 posts)He had a series of heart attacks or strokes that gradually led to dementia.

(4,558 posts)In those days, TV private investigators were flawless and sophisticated. They never worried about collecting their fees either.
Rockford was more like what you'd find in the real world. He avoided dangerous situations. He lived in a trailer, and his dad lived with him. He also insisted on being paid.
Good program.

I'm sure they will do a Garner retrospective now and will definitely play that one.

(26,117 posts)Great movie, and he was terrific in the part.
I loved Rockford, of course. And he was terrific in Murphy's Romance (his character was a good liberal, as was Garner).

(5,170 posts)Those awesome polyester pants he wears are exactly how my dad dressed in the 70s.
Behind the Aegis
(53,951 posts)Horrible movie, but that was where I met him. He hung out with my parents and when my brother and I introduced ourselves, he knew who we were and was very nice. I just remember how big his hands were! He was a very gentle person, at least what I saw of him.
The Second Stone
(2,900 posts)because it was a bit more lighthearted and fun. In both cases the character he played solved problems with his wits, not violence. I also loved the acting of the fellow who played Bart Maverick.

One role I have not seen given enough mention was in the TV film My Name is Bill W. when he played Dr. Bob and broke our hearts. if I really had to pick it would be Support Your Local Sheriff because that was the first thing I really knew him from.
TuxedoKat
(3,818 posts)But I loved anything he was in. One of my favorite actors.
