To say that my town is as ignorant as an effin' stump is an insult to stumps everywhere

3-Day biker rally in town.

Skynyrd tribute band. HOT. Very faithful to the original songs. These boys did their homework.

A laid-back, fun event, and the tinfoil hatters are still warning people about the inevitable raping, looting, and pillaging.

We are halfway through the event. NO rapes. NO looting. NO pillaging.

Just good food, good music, good times in a town where "events" are few and far between.

I saw a band in April called Lynyrd Skynyrd and they sucked. And they
Had the gall to be introduced as Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducties.

...these guys are actually BETTER than the "one remaining member" edition of the "real" Skynyrd. They take NO chances...everything is pretty much note for note off of the studio albums. But they perform NO post-Ronnie songs. They understand, the "real" guys don't.

A friend plays in a Skynyrd tribute band called Freebird.
I'll have to call him.

band from performing because they were ripping off the other tribute band's trademarks. Not really. But I'm going to a party later and have nothing to do while I wait for a call from a friend so I'm just laughing at myself about stuff.

It reminds me of the scene in This Is Spinal Tap where the guitarist says something like 'We used to be called The Originals. But there was an American band that called themselves The Originals so we changed our name to The New Originals.'

Took this pic last night. The singer really went overboard with the Ronnie look, right down to the bare feet. Bass player just looked like a bass player. Other members went for varying degrees of the Skynyrd "look."

You do have some ignorant people in your town. I would welcome a biker rally to my city. They bring in a lot of money and everyone has a good time.

Several people talked about how they were going to the store on Thursday and stock up on "provisions" so they wouldn't have to leave their house for the three days of the rally. Others talked about how the main drag through town was a "parking lot"...I pretty much went out today right before lunch and got groceries like ANY...OTHER...DAY.

The crazy runs deep here.

Our little town of 10,000 swells to over 100,000 plus when the bikers come....

Always a good time. Never any 'raping or pillaging'.

...population of Sturgis: 6,644. Population of my town: 36,441.

Now, we were not overrun as Sturgis is annually. In fact, one of the most frequent comments (other than "it as really fun and peaceful&quot was "it was a pretty small crowd."

So what happened is we had a peaceful 3-day event, sweetened by a lot of outside money pumped into local businesses, and the people who cried "THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!" pretty much look like the clueless idiots they are on this fine Monday morning.
