Bluetooth: Wherein I join the 20th Century

I am a late adopter. I buy tech only when the need rises. I bought my first flatscreen teevee about two years ago. It's not very big but I like it. I bought an antenna so I can pick up some local channels and PBS. Otherwise, I use it in conjunction with my Wii, which I bought just last year, so I can watch Netflix and play old school Zelda.

My main computer is a used Thinkpad T60 - which suits me just fine. It's fast enough, sturdy enough, and when I want to watch/surf in my bed, I have a 1st Gen iPad that my brother gave me.

While I have been doing the wireless LAN/broadband thing for a while, what has been lacking is proper sound. I'm old and deaf and in a perfect world, I would shell out ridiculous munnies for a surround-sound system with satellite speakers.

This is why I finally ordered a bluetooth transmitter for the teevee and a dongle for the laptop. I also ordered a couple of small portable bluetooth speakers so's I can (hopefully) place them close to my crappy ears and be able to hear my movies and shows and stupid cat videos without blasting the noise to the rest of my apartment complex.

Anyway, so, bluetooth fans...any tips or tricks or horror stories?

I'm on my third White Russian, so I may respond stupidly or not at all. Retirement is awesome!

Maybe I should move this to the computer Forum?

Hmm. Well that prospect poses a possible post for the ATA Forum.

Cool.

Also, why is there no "I'm drinking Forum?"

I think people will be along in a few hours to help you. It's a tad early or late, depending on one's perspective.

and able hear things not apparent to ordinary mortals. No-one else I know complains.

As to wireless audio for TV or the computer years ago my mother was using the infrared style and found them wonderful.

'cause I don't like the non-wired bluetooth sound on my jambox. I like the sound wired.

to blast the stuff even louder to your ears without worrying about neighbors.

I'm not too into bluetooth any more. Used it for a while, trying to find a way to talk on my cell phone wirelessly.

The pairing and yadda yadda became a distraction. So I ditched it.

Read the manual to learn how to do the pairing. Find the manual online too, and bookmark it and / or save it to pdf.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes!

around Christmas time. Walgreens had bluetooth speakers for $20(Hype brand). They can be linked to a phone and you can answer calls from the speaker. Fairly good sound for the price.

I also tried sending files between my two tablets via bluetooth. It is slow as hell.
