Ballard is one of those underrated/forgotten greats who had tons of raw, jumpin' and grindin' energy in his music and lotsa innuendo and soul in his lyrics and vocals.

or Chuck Berry. Though the fact that he's so underrated probably has a lot to do with that.
I can see why his records made a lot of people at the time freak out, though. The way he sings, he often sounds like he's about to have an orgasm or something - really raunchy stuff, by 50's standards at least.
