I always find myself sort of popping out of my preconceptions about the board and remembering that's real people I'm talking to, not just a series of little boxes of text... certainly brings things into perspective.
I actually rarely post in them. I read them all the way through, but I don't post regularly enough on DU to "know" anyone here and would feel disrespectful and false in crafting a response containing an emotion feigned beyond ordinay condolences. If I do post in them I usually do just offer condolences... and feel strange that I didn't know enough about them to say more...

Posts about beloved pets that have crossed the Rainbow Bridge also make me so sad. I have stopped clicking on them... I just can't take it.
