(55,007 posts)yeah, she was a funny little runt but turned out to be a good mouser and was always sweet to everybody but the two house dogs. they developed a truce but she would give them a swat with claws out when they weren't paying attention. LOL

(55,007 posts)it could be gross, but better than on the rug or furniture, Freddy the yellow cat has learned to do the same.

(37,999 posts)she was in good health her whole life until this winter. lost a lot of weight fast, took her to the vet and they said she was in remarkably good health in terms of everything but a little anemia and some blood in her urine - figured it was a fast running gastro-intestinal cancer. I was going to take her in tomorrow as she quit eating on Friday night, but I could tell last night and this morning it was going to be today.
I held her almost to the end. She wanted down, but could not stand so I made a nest in a cardboard box. A couple hours later she stopped breathing. I am glad she died here and didn't have to endure a 30 minute drive to the vet.

(10,021 posts)Never sick a day in her life, but one night she came in the house, jumped on my lap, gave me a kiss and then went and laid down in the hallway. She had never done that before and, like you, I knew that her time had come. I got her a pillow, made her comfortable and petted her until about 1am & she went to sleep. I went to bed & the next morning she was gone. Knowing her time was close, I had dug a hole in the yard & found a box that she would fit in. When I went to her in the morning, all 4 legs and her tale were straight out & she no longer would fit in the box or even the hole. No way was I going to break anything so she would fit, so I frantically dug the hole wider & put her in a burlap sack. That was 3 yrs ago, and, because she was such a talker, I truly miss that little cat to this day. Bless you for giving your little cat such a wonderful and beautiful life, full of love and treats. It'll get better but you'll never forget her.

(22,666 posts)What a sweetheart kitteh she was!
she was the first cat I have ever had longer than a few months, never had one as a kid and the few others were either companions to other people first, or in the case of one young one got out when I was out of town and was run over.

(32,079 posts)What a pretty girl. I'm sorry, Kali.
she was a small thing. until we got Freddy it was weird to meet a regular sized cat - they seemed so big compared to what I was used to with her.
going to bury her near where that squash blossom photo was taken, in the yard under the apricot tree.

(132 posts)I couldn't help but notice your grey glider in one of the pictures. We have one just like it on our deck. My two cats enjoy sitting on it so much.
Glad she went peacefully.

(1,606 posts)What a beautiful pet! What a jolt, what a shock, what a loss it is when we lose such a part of our lives. We feel it and share it with you; our hearts are with yours as you make your way through the coming days. Never forget (1) always on our mind, (2) we live for a better day.
Stay strong Kali. You are in our thoughts and hopes and dreams!

(2,124 posts)It's never easy to lose them and I've lost 7 kitties. Mamakitty was really beautiful-she reminds me of one of my kitties (the third pix down). You had many happy and healthy years with her and she gave you much love. Treasure the memories, secure in the knowledge that you gave her a great life. Much peace to you in the coming days and weeks.

Hard as it is to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way.

We have our own MommaKitty (regional variant in spelling, I guess ) and she's the sweetest thing on this earth. She sends her vibes to you, and to the orange friend left behind.

(50,566 posts)Reminds me of a little Mama Kitty I used to have. *sigh*
We had a completely feral outside cat for several years. She had a couple one-kitten litters including one that we kept. We fed her but could never even touch her until 3 days before she was ready to die. She walked into our house and laid down and we made her comfortable.
