I'm going to use two for my examples: a metal bar and a country bar. They're less than one block apart.

I've been in the country bar a handful of times over the past 12 years. Only when someone drags me in. Even if I did like the music, I couldn't enjoy it. As soon as you walk through the door, you're bombarded with faux cowboys using every crappy line known to man embellished with the words 'sweetie', 'darlin', 'honey', etc. The women are too busy hitting on each other's husbands/boyfriends to notice that their own has wandered off.

The metal bar.

Odd mix of ages, until you realize that we'll soon be hearing Slayer and Metallica at retirement homes. But, despite the age differences, everyone agrees that the music is AWESOME!! If a man decides he'd like to meet you, he approaches shyly and makes a comment about the music. A few minutes later, he might stutter out, "Would you like a drink?" (believe it or not, the majority of metalheads are closet geeks and nerds. Don't let the tats and hair fool ya). The women aren't interested in each other's men. They're there for the music, atmosphere and don't seem to feel threatened by another woman that is 20 years younger and in better shape.

I know quite a few bouncers in town that work the bar circuit. If you ask any of them, they prefer the metal crowd. Less drama, fewer fights and fewer drunks. Metal heads would prefer a couple of beers to warm them up until they get home to get baked...and play video games.

They're good people. Shared lots of comic book time with the ones I knew.
