Finding public parking in Manhattan?

If I was going to be in Manhattan and needed to take a car into the city, how would I go about finding public parking (preferably a garage) near where I wanted to go? 606 W 28th Street?

There are a number of garage companies competing for your business. They put online great deals for parking, but if you just show up off the street, you pay full fare. You can save 50-75% off the "rack rate" for parking. Good luck.
