Maybe corn husks? Even that's a stretch. Curiosity piqued and checked Wikipedia...they are, in fact, grain sheaves. Still look like alien life forms to me, though.

I couldn't tell. They kind of look like something out of "Pokemon" to me. Now, those to white projections on either side of the shield that are pointing inward...
