The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI'm now a Novice! :D
I passed my driving test. The camping trip idea I had is now possible As an (N) driver I now get to replace the (L) on the back of my car with a shinny new sign:
The reason the camping trip idea I had hinged on passing this is because the L stage licence didn't allow me to drive alone, now I can.

(149,580 posts)Yay and congrats!
That is awesome news! I knew you'd be OK.
How long will you be a Novice?

(6,154 posts)Not that it matters much the restrictions on the N level are minor:
Zero blood alcohol.
Only one other friend in the car who does not have a drivers licence of their own.
No cell phone or other electronic device use at all.
Otherwise it's like a regular licence, well except for having to display the N, which I'm ok with.
BTW I hope you are having a great time in Italy, it looks like it from the posts I've seen recently.

(149,580 posts)Those are good habits to get into, anyway!
We're home from our trip now...
I just wanted to share some of the better pics...

(6,154 posts)Now that you can look back on it as a single experience?
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,580 posts)I'd say it was fascinating.........and exhausting.
I wish I'd been in better shape. There was an awful lot of walking over rough surfaces, and that was tough. I was afraid that I would have a nasty fall, and so I was very careful about where I put my feet.
The upside was I didn't fall. And the downside was, if I wanted to look at something, I'd have to stop in order to see it.
Even so, I'm glad I went. And I won't go back. I'm still tired, although the cold I caught is probably part of that.

(6,154 posts)It's an experience of a life time. I'm sorry to hear it was so physically demanding, I know trips can be. For me they are often both physically and emotionally demanding. Jet lag + emotional stress + depression and anxiety + family issues = a bad combination. Add to that hours and hours of walking and yeah I know what you mean, especially if you have physical difficulties already. But all of the trips I've made to Europe, even though they were with my family when I was old enough to have gone myself, rank among some of the best of my memories.
Take some time now to rest and relax Peggy! You have earned it! When you are better relaxed then reflect on it some more. You've brought back some great photos BTW!

(149,580 posts)And believe me, I AM resting and relaxing! Long naps and posting on DU are a big part of that too...
It took me Three days to unpack!

(6,154 posts)I was not so sure on this end. My driving skills were up to the task, but the issue was I get far to nervous in these situations and goof stuff up that I wouldn't normally.

(6,154 posts)I'm actually a strong atheist, not a preachy one though. People are free to have their own views, my own are fairly strong and I'm proud to have them, I'm not going to start fights about it. But yeah joining a monastery would be rather out of character to say the least.
Although I DO envy the meditative peace and tranquility of the position. Perhaps a Buddhist monk wouldn't be 1000% out of the question some day a hundred years from now
Thanks for the congrats.
