One of the iconic movies of the early 60's is on TCM....

The Misfits with Clark Gable, Montgomery Clift and Marylin Monroe....

All three appeared in what was to be their last real movies.

Clark was old, but still rugged and plays a man stuck between the 1960's and the 1930's. Fitting.

Marylin plays a troubled woman who is out west to get a divorce.

Montgomey Clift play a cowboy who doesn't belong anywhere.

The three end up with Eli Wallach out in the desert for a roundup of wild mustangs.

It's beautiful, lush black and white movie.

Not the best any of them did by far, to me Gable was far better in the off kilter romantic coedies from the 30's, but it's the combination that makes it special.

Monroe had hit it so high on Bus Stop and Montgomery Clift was spiraling down into his eventual sad death as an addict.

For my mind, Clift paved the way for James Dean, acting with a fullness that was something new in Hollywood.

Anyway, I go on too long.

And I beg to differ: you do not go on too long. I think your critique is spot on, and useful to boot.

Thanks for the review!
