1. Well according to scbigbass.com...

and I'm quoting here,

"You don't need the most expensive rod and reel on the market. Even if someone gave you a top of the line outfit, you probably wouldn't know how to best use it. Stick with good quality gear that you feel comfortable with. If bait casters give you a hard time, stick with spinning gear. Fishing should be fun, not frustrating. I do suggest you go with the lightest weight rod and reel you can afford, as fatigue can be a real factor during a full day of tossing baits."

Maybe a lighter bass would do for now like this nice Ibanez...

3. that's a lot of money

but it's a nice bass... where are you at as far as playing? I take it you're a musician...sorry for my tongue in cheek reply above! But I played bass back a long while ago.

4. I have been in bands for twenty years

no need to apologize.

Been playing since my *off beat* band days in Detroit...then several bands in Virginia...now myself and some friends are looking at some things....just looking at options...I'll likely be the bass player

6. Looks OK, but I'd be cautious

The additional, disconnected jack gives me pause (unknown mod of unknown origin), and some of the gouges on the front look almost like a shot from a screwdriver or drill-bit.

I'm definitely a Music Man and G&L guy, but I like Ricks. A little too forward/bright for my taste, but fast and fun to play.
