A little rhyme for our time

Monsters in my mind - by Plucketeer

It used to be, as I recall, I couldn't comprehend
silly clowns, in goofy garb, I couldn't count as friend

The clowns made people chuckle and caused big belly laughs
with baudy, comic antics and clumsy, prankish gaffs

I thought, I did, as a young kid, that clowns were just plain fun
no malice to their whacky ways when all was said and done

But well into adulthood, my comprehension changed
a new clown sort - I recognized - one that was deranged

The clowns of my adulthood would have us all divided
they drub me from my TV screen - their routines all one-sided

Some claim to want to "take us back" to when I had no voice
when freedoms were defined by race and women had no choice

I wonder'd could this come to pass - where we could retrograde
where minions not unlike myself could toast with clown kool aid

These clowns are now auditioning for the circus in DC
some of therm - should they go there - would really frighten me

A child no more, these clowns do scare - they make me fear my bed
Covers up, and lights turned off, they will not leave my head!
