It's about 2 hours away, but I'll be watching this instead of the Oscars tonight.
I wonder who is going to rally the gang at the prison after the brutal assault by the Governor? How will Merle's return be handled by Glenn, Michonne, etc? What will Andrea do?
Should be interesting.

(46,684 posts)I'm fine with her, but, perhaps it is lazy writing that they're not giving her a good speaking role.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)she's not a big talker in the comics, either, but she did at least say something - and, you knew more about her background earlier in the comics as well. Did she even say (on the show) where the two chained walkers came from? Or, why she's such a badass with the katana?
Baitball Blogger
(46,684 posts)The craze doctor from the town guessed it. But it's still a mystery.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)is that the producers of the show knew she was one of the most popular characters in the comics, so were anxious to get her on the show - hence, her appearance on the show before Tyreese, when Tyreese appeared before Michonne or the Governor in the comics. However, once they got her on the show, they're not quite sure what to do with her.
If you want spoilers - in the comics one of the walkers was Michonne's boyfriend, and the other was (if I recall), her boyfriend's roommate.
And, she was good with the sword because because she was a college athlete who was an avid fencer, if I recall. Not that the katana and fencing are the same, but I think she explained it in the comics.
I don't think she was a big talker, but at least people knew a bit about her there.

(5,604 posts)Given the amount of chaos that the group is in, there is a possibility that there could be a lot of dialog, and not too much action. Hope thats not the case though. The group needs Merle so I suspect there will be truce triangulated by Hershel, and Andrea will be confoundingly annoying.

(49,445 posts)He fits on either foot.
He's too valuable to either side to kill outright, so they plan to use him up, and if he dies in the process... to damn bad.
But despite being an abrasive asshole, he has good instincts with people and knows when to change sides, and with what information that will keep him from being killed.
Eventually, he'll either get killed or escape the area and sink his venom in with a new group.

Sounds like they're going to stay. Merle is trying to prepare them, telling them that the Governor has ammunition to come and starve them to death.

Andrea walks in. Not happy about the gunning down of her friends at the prison. Wants to go and see them. Governor doesn't want her to go. "You go to that prison, stay there."
Andrea walks around. Realizes that Governor's men is training everyone to be an army.

(46,684 posts)Herschel and Merle are have a tet-a-tet. Both are talking about their lost limbs. Herschel shows him a bible and talks about losing his way. He is quoting the bible, and Merle and finished the psalm.
He is now trying to convince Herschel of the danger they're in with the governor. Good lines.

Switch to the prison. Carole and Daryl are talking to each other. They're in a cell together. She tells him that Merle is his brother, but he's not good for him. Afterall, look how far he's come. They have a laugh.

(49,445 posts)...I would put snipers in the woods on the prison perimeter, and run a couple of decoy trucks through the fencing. Just a driver.
When the defenders responded, have the snipers in the woods try to pick them off, or at least keep them pinned down while I attacked from a different direction.
Breech the prison walls, and get them in a vice. Walkers and snipers on one side, the prison with armed teams working through it on the other side.

The gov found out they were in the prison.

Carol asked Andrea to kill the Gov and end it.
Andrea is now going back to the town in a car Rick gave her.

Ben and Allen are all in, but I don't think that Tyreese and Sascha will side with the Governor for long though.
Baitball Blogger
(46,684 posts)NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)Maybe Tyreese and/or Sascha will as well? Maybe the Governor torturing/killing somebody from the prison would change Tyreese? I think Tyreese did say they seemed like a good lot, except for the crazy Rick.
Joe Shlabotnik
(5,604 posts)(*I haven't read the graphic novels, or seen any credible spoilers). But the Governor and Milton could barely conceal their sliminess at the mention of the prison. And at the same time, there is a possibility that the Gov will be wary of them as infiltrators from Rick's group. He might try to off them after extracting whatever info he can get.
Add to that that Ricks group, (with the exception of Rick) saved their asses, and was quite good to them, and Tyreese and Sascha may have a problem with killing kids, babies and crippled old men.
Ultimately, I think with the last episode of the season titled "Welcome to the tombs", that Rick's group will be forced to escape through there, and be bailed out by Tyreese, leaving the pursuing Governor trapped in the there.
Baitball Blogger

(18,705 posts)It will be interesting to see how the Gov.'s new army stands up to Rick's group.
I don't think the new army will last long.
I think the Gov will but them in the front to get killed off.
He is getting tired of the town, and its people.
It would be nice for Rick's group to get the town.

(1,569 posts)Little things like not really giving Andrea the entire story (Maggie and Glenn treatment in Woodbury not mentioned?) and the whole "If you go to the prison, don't come back" then secretly help her go, then sleep with her when she returns saga was just dumb.
What really bugged me though is the hyping of the war...running low on food is one thing, but ammo? It is a friggin' ZA and you don't wait for a looming war to go scavenge for bullets--you get all that there are at every opportunity. The biggest hit on this front was Hershel saying it may be too late to escape the prison because the Woodbury army could have all the roads and escape routes covered.
Holy crap! The entire Woodbury "army" was just inventoried in that very episode and it tops out at 3 dozen folks including old women and wheezy boys! Because you must be in groups to be somewhat safe among the zombies in the "red zone" and you need at least some people manning the walls back at Woodbury--the best they might be able to do is place 4 or 5 sentry points--no where near enough to box in a prison. Worse, each of those Woodbury groups would be outnumbered by the 8 people in the Grimes group.
The governor can't put the prison under a long term seige--he doesn't have the manpower (Merle, and Michone at least know this), his own supply lines would be more strained than the prison people, and no one in Woodbury presumably has a real idea of how much food is stockpiled in the prison.
I know they need to force the action along, but this was terribly weak writing.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)I think the overall show has been very good, but some of the writing & dialogue has been weak at times. I agree on that. And, the Woodbury army is The Governor, maybe 5-7 other competent "soldiers" and a bunch of people that will likely run away as soon as soon as shots starting ringing out, or somebody on their side takes a bullet.
Some counter-points - Rick's group spent a lot of ammo in their two raids on Woodbury, and have not really had a chance to restock on supplies. The one supply run they did have was Glenn & Maggie getting interrupted by Merle.
The five prisoners had enough food for several months, if I recall. However, if you added in 6-7-8 more from Rick's group, the food goes a lot quicker. We're not sure of the exact number of days/weeks that have passed since they took over the prison? Remember, Lori was eating for two for a while there, too, and T-Dogg was there for a while as well.
Andrea was there at the prison for a few hours, I would think. They could have told her about Glenn & Maggie at Woodbury "off screen" - she was convinced enough to side with Rick's group and at least think of stabbing the Governor in his sleep.
They also don't need a whole army to put the prison under siege. A few guys in trees on each side of the prison, and then a few more in a truck to get the guys in trees and you'v effectively boxed them in - Rick is not the type that's going to sacrifice Beth, Carl, Hershel, and Little Ass-Kicker in an all-out attempt to escape. Sure, they could outnumber the men surrounding the prison, but they guys outside will be hidden and have cover, while Ricks' group would be easy picking for them as they tried to escape.
