I was forced, against my will, to read that overwrought but, admittedly, well-written soap opera in tenth or eleventh grade. What misery. The experience put me off of English literature for, well, decades.
Anyway, apparently it was made into a film several years ago. For some unknown reason Showtime has elected to run it and, while I wasn't paying attention, started showing it after whatever I had on as background noise earlier.
It is actually worse than I remember. And I did not think that was possible. My God, what a stinker. The suckitude defies description. Switched to "Goldeneye", with commercials no less, just to flush the utter hideousness from my consciousness.
