The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI live in a split level apartment
kitchen, parlor/living room, laundry, one bath, one back bedroom on the first floor.
two bedrooms upstairs and a master shared bath for both rooms...plus a back patio.
it's very nice for the decent price I'm paying...I like it a lot.
the only thing is...I find that in keeping it clean....
dishes need to get back downstairs...oh...these clothes need to be upstairs...
or my purse is on one floor and I'm on the other...and my eye glasses...oh shit, where are my eye glasses...by
the bed upstairs or in the shower downstairs?
and the dog running up and down the stairs sounds like a herd of horses.
on edit: when I first moved in the dog was scared of the stairs...went up, but wouldn't come down.
I had to carry her down. lol...now she's up and down them like a speed demon.

(16,245 posts)It was only a one-bedroom, which occupied the top floor, in a sort of loft arrangement, meaning there was no bedroom door, just a low wall. My cat would race up and down the stairs like a crazy thing.
The main problem was that when I turned the heat on, the bedroom area roasted, while the downstairs was cold. The thermostat was downstairs, so the heat kept running based on that temperature. I could never get it right.

(4,187 posts)one of the top bedrooms is open loft....
and given the cats plenty of places to get comfy downstairs so they don't get cold.
but I'm in north Texas so the winter shouldn't be too hard.
I did close the vents upstairs some. so that more heat goes downstairs.
I'm probably going to have more issue with the summer heat making it hot upstairs...
when it's over 100 for days at a time and doesn't get below 80 in the evening.
That really stinks because you have to run the a/c all day.

(31,382 posts)when we first brought her home. House on a hill, the living space (kitchen/dining/living area, master and small
second bedroom) were on main level...and the lower level was really built as an apartment with its own bedroom/bath and
living area that my hubby used for his office (also another private entrance from a separate deck).
Washer/dryer and door to carport area were lower level. My vet said to coax her with chicken. It worked! She
was going up/down in no time!

(4,187 posts)and after she saw me going up and down...
and after she realized that she wasn't going to fall,
then one day she realized it was ok.
I had read "inside of a dog" and I don't think she could see the stairs too well...
with the color of the carpet and the way they can't see right under themselves too well.
