pre-school and early childhood teachers: chime in here.

I'm working with 2-3 year olds this past month (and will be for a while, I think) after spending two years with 1-2 year olds...

the BIG thing that I'm learning I need to do
is teach them how to socially interact with each other....

We have one boy that constantly runs after other kids because he doesn't know
how to ask to join a group. We've begun working with him on that.
"So and so... you need to ask Billy to play the ball with you", etc...

"David, ask Peter if you can play.
Peter, share your blocks with David", etc...

With the one year olds, we are just busy with getting them used to eating with utensils, working on large motor skills, and doing basic stuff.

All this new social interaction aspect is really interesting to me.

Children need to learn how to use their words. That is our job to model and give them tools to help in that department. It is fun to see at the beginning of the school year which children need more help than others. Then, towards the end of the school year, look at the amazing progress the entire class has made.
