How is it that they can hire so many minions? What is the pay like? Do they get benefits? Are they union? Do they have a HR dept? Payroll? What about the Family Leave Act? Do they get health insurance? Dental?

How do they recruit? Monster.com?

1. Well, it depends...

Originally, the Villans worked for SMERSH, which was an actual arm of the Soviet government, so you'd get whatever pay and benefits that field espionage operateves got in Kruschev's Russia.

But that ended pretty quickly, and then everybody worked for SPECTRE, which was headed up by Ernstavlo Blofeld. They seemed to kind of operate like a worldwide Mafia on steroids. So, i'd imagine you started with some initiation ceremony, and then became a guard or som low level enforcer, and went right on up the chain until you got Goldfinger's or Scaramunga's job. No benefits, and I imagine the pay sucked. Fringe benefits seemed decent -- unlss you were one of the victims in the live training.

Of course, I imagine if you looked like Honor Blackmon or Ursula Andress, the pay and promotion scale was a bit different.

Okay, you're a SPECTRE minion and you got night century duty. It's cold. You're tired. You're sleepy. Then, James Bond comes over the wall, and he's going to attack you. Are you gonna fight him for a lousy job?

3. SPECTRE does not have understanding or forgiving management

Remember - many of their employees would have difficulty finding other employment (ex-convicts, raving psycopaths, etc.). But once you're hired, you'd BETTER fight for the lousy job -- otherwise it's into the tank of sharks, or pirannahs, or whatever the bossman has back at the evil lair.
