Rush (the band) nominated for Rock N Roll Hall of Fame!

The nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2013 are in. This year's hopefuls are Albert King, Chic, Deep Purple, Donna Summer, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Kraftwerk, the Marvelettes, the Meters, N.W.A., Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Procul Harum, Public Enemy, Randy Newman and Rush. The top vote-getters will be inducted on April 18th, 2013 at the Nokia Theater L.A. live in Los Angeles.

3. Rolling Stone did some list of 'Bands overlooked for R&R Hall of Fame.

They do these polls all the time, ones that readers can vote in and then they do those slideshow articles for online reading.

Thing is this - the Rush fans just overwhelmed the polls and no one even came close to Rush's first place finish. So I think Jann Wenner (editor of RS magazine), who has been very vocal about his dislike of Prog-Rock music, figured he'd finally have to get Rush onto the list.

The interesting loophole this year is that the people are also involved with the voting and I suspect that Rush will get picked. Jann can then say it was 'the people's will' not him backing off his anti-prog rock stance. Of course still waiting for Yes, Moody Blues, King Crimson and Jethro Tull to get their opportunities!!

My picks for this year: Obviously Rush - the fans are so fanatic that I suspect they will be the overwhelming first choice pick. We've also seen some of the early rap groups make RRHOF but this year's crop features bands that really gave Rap an edge it hand't seen in the past and thus Public Enemy (East Coast Rap) and NWA (West Coast Rap) will be on the list, expect to see an East Coast v West Coast all-star list of rappers pay tribute (btw I'm an East Coast fan). I also think the Meters will be picked and Randy Newman because Newman has been nominated 20,999 times for the Oscar in song-writing.

It appears that the "fan vote" will be combined and count as one vote in the overall voting, with the other 600+ votes belonging to the usual record producers, artists, etc.

But I still think Rush will make the final five.

And Rush has already taken a pretty commanding lead on the votes page. I think that will have some impact with the regular voters as to the importance of Rush in music history.

it's a great song. She was an influential early female punk rocker and she writes music, plays guitar, produces and kicks ass. I saw her perform in the mid 80s and it was a great show and that was before I even knew much about her other than "I Love Rock and Roll". Combine her JJatBH experience with her 5 or so albums while in the Runaways plus all the other bands she has produced since then and you can easily make a great case for this talented lady being in the RnR HOF.

I also like her politics.

Unless I'm mistaken and some of these groups are already in there. Too many good, influential groups being ignored. Too many rap/hiphop/disco acts in there, too many jokes like Guns N Roses.

No question they helped change rock music although I like one of their influences, The Melvins, a lot more than them. Even though I don't care for Nirvana, I LOOOOOOOOVE Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters and pretty much everything else he's been a part of so I thank Nirvana for giving him a start. I imagine his success with them allowed him to do all the things that came after.

and while the HOF has an obvious bias against prog rock, I think it's bias against other subgenres like surf rock and psychedelia is even worse.

a unique sound and style to rock music, breathed some fresh life into it--I see him as entirely progressive, while still writing songs with mass appeal. That is a tricky balance.

34. Joanie plays rock-n-roll music- descended straight from Chuck Berry and Elvis,

and skipping the schlock. She can't help it if most of her competitors are boring rock bands or worse. Joanie personifies rock-n-roll to a T. Leather jacket, 'tude, 3 chords and the truth. A modern Gene Vincent! Plus she's had a great deal of success touring and selling records and a great deal of influence via her first band, the brilliant Runaways. She fits every criteria necessary, the most important of which is playing actual rock-n-roll music.

Rock-n-roll is not the same thing as rock music in my book. It's the difference between going out dancing and sitting at home listening to the Dark Side of the Moon.

IMO. Kraftwerk also more than deserve induction - they founded and pioneered the entire genre of electonic rock/pop music. Rappers with a few ten thousandths of one percent of Kraftwerk's talent and originality have been stealing from them for decades.

If you noticed that so far with Rappers in the RRHOF it was more commericial radio friendly stuff with Run-DMC, The Beastie Boys and even Grand Master Flash.

Public Enemy and NWA took rap to a whole new level with PE being the granddaddy of East Coast rap (in your face) whereas NWA was the grandfather of West Coast rap (still in your face but in a bit of a laid back way). I remember having an interesting debate with rap fans about who was better PE or NWA and honestly - both are equal. And you can't put one in without putting the other one in.

I'm a bit disappointed that Salt n Pepa aren't on the list because they were the pioneers of women rapping.

A few years back, I visited the Negro League Museum in Kansas City and was so impressed with the exhibits and moved by the story, which many baseball fans like myself are surprisingly unaware of. I happen to be a collector of baseball memorabilia and a friend of mine spotted this collection at an auction, so we hatched a plan to buy them and donate them to the museum. I just thought that they belonged in the museum and not in private hands. The collection was divided into two lots of 200 balls each, and we were successful in purchasing one of the lots. But after my donation became public, I discovered who had purchased the second lot, and after approaching them, they were kind enough to allow me to purchase the remainder of the balls in order to donate the complete collection of over 400 balls to the museum. I recently visited the museum again, and the balls are now beautifully displayed
