The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI want a do-over.
I thought I was taking the high ground by stepping out of a jury, the first time I ever did that, but it was in a forum I was not familiar with. The person involved was someone from the Lounge that I think of highly. Now that I see the aftermath, I swear I'll never do that again. Biased, Smiased, I'm giving a fellow Lounger the benefit of the doubt next time.

... is that sometimes even the most-principled among us can be influenced by
certain factors, whether we're aware of them or not.
.
I've heard plenty of stories over the years concerning many areas where there
have been people who wondered (or worse, REALIZED) that they had voted in
FAVOR of the person they didn't like because they didn't want to be guilty (even
and especially in their own mind) of prejudice AGAINST them.
.
There are good reasons for both mandatory and voluntary recusals. The subconscious
can be a powerful influence.

The "memoir" stories can evoke strong memories, often good, but almost always interesting memories.
.
The serious stories help me with introspection.

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of others that feel like you do.
