I'm urging folks to cancel their Peacock subscription

...........The epitome of greed:

"NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and NBC are slammed by Democrat congressman for putting Chiefs-Dolphins playoff game on Peacock in $110million deal. This double-charges loyal fans'
NBC paid a reported $110 million to put the game exclusively on Peacock

The NFL and NBC are ripping off football fans by putting Saturday's Kansas City Chiefs-Miami Dolphins playoff game on a subscription streaming service, according to an open letter from Democrat congressman Pat Ryan of New York.

'It's a disgrace,' Ryan wrote in the letter addressed to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and NBC Sports President Rick Cordella. 'Fans already face exorbitant prices to watch every game during the regular season; they don't deserve to be squeezed even further by greedy corporations.

'This bait-and-switch is particularly egregious for consumers who already pay for NBC as part of their cable package. Since Peacock is a subsidiary of NBCUniversal, this exclusive deal essentially double-charges loyal fans to watch games they thought they had already paid for.'

NBC paid a reported $110 million to put the game exclusively on Peacock, which typically charges $6 a month for a subscription, but is now offering a one-year deal for $30 ahead of the Chiefs-Dolphins game.

Despite the discount, Ryan remained furious with the NFL and NBC's apparent cash grab.
Roger Goodell sold exclusive rights to the Wild Card game for a reported $110million."

I'm really disgusted by this. I have older friends who don't have streaming access and don't want to deal with setting up devices. I'll be cancelling my subscription to Peacock (I don't think the station offers much anyway). I'll call customer service when I get back to California and hopefully will reach a person so I can tell them why I'm cancelling.

BTW, I realize some people are anti-football and I understand.

It feels like capitalism is a failed experiment. NOTHING is more important than the bottom line. It's so sad.

There are still folks out there who don't want an expensive cable commitment.

Portland Trailblazers moved their coverage to a premium tier this year. We'll see it THAT decision works out for a 10-28 team!

CFP cashed in on America's addiction to football. Look for MUCH more of the same "PAY TO PLAY" in the NFL.

Peacock (a dreadful company) never claimed to be in business for the fans. The NFL is the organization that touts its loyalty to the fans. Peacock (NBC on steroids) just went looking for a greedy bunch of investors and tycoons. They found them in the NFL.

Last year, NFL playoff games averaged 30-million viewers.

One assumes Peacock is hoping the subscribers they gained for the game stay with the service at $6 a month.

My understanding is that people had to subscribe in advance for a year (at a "discount" of $30 instead of the $66 that would cost them if they paid monthly)....but I don't know if that's a fact.

In any case F Peacock and Roger Goodell!

Peacock is month to month.
If you pay by the year, it's discounted. Pretty sure, per our plan you get 12 months for the price of 10. (Yep, I just checked on our TV. )
We only had it when it was free to Comcast customers.
When they tacked on the extra fee, we let in lapse.

The entire pro sports world is nuts. Nobody is worth what overpaid players are pulling these days. The cost is passed along to the little guy- the fan. Screw them all, I can live without pro sports.

My husband really enjoys getting out to a live baseball game, and our Milwaukee Brewers help us a great deal bringing in a wheelchair and oxygen. We will continue to enjoy some baseball, but that's it for me.

I have YouTube TV, which includes the NFL Network. So I recorded the game--shown at 3 am on NFL Network -- and watched it on Sunday morning over breakfast and coffee.
It did not bother me in the least, and there were plenty of other things to watch Saturday night.
The game itself had horrible direction. Very often the commercials overlapped the first down when the ball changed teams. The game would be rejoined during a second down. And they kept flashing Peacock on the screen all during the game. Not hard to figure out what the priority was: $$$
Fu*k Peacock.
