I'm becoming a graffiti fan at 64.

Just read/looked at Banksy's book, Wall and Piece and he makes some very telling points about wall writing.

Here a few quotes:

“the people who run our cities dont understand graffiti because they think nothing has the right to exist unless it makes a profit...

the people who truly deface our neighborhoods are the companies that scrawl giant slogans across buildings and buses trying to make us feel inadequate unless we buy their stuff....

And my favorite of all:

Any advertisement in public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours, it belongs to you ... It's yours to take, rearrange and re-use. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head..

And here's another that's pretty good:

“You owe the companies nothing. You especially don't owe them any courtesy. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don't even start asking for theirs.”

So, I'm getting some permanent markers, cutting some stencils and buying some spray paint.

I love street art. Love it to death. I love that cities that can no longer affrord to keep painting over it have blossomed into art centers. really amazing stuff is being created now.

I have lots of trains in the neighborhood and the graffiti artists have made use of them.
