Other than Skittles, I mean.
Hi, Skittles! How's the night going?
I'm thinking another hour or so before I hit the sack. Who's out there?

(25,841 posts)Started work around 2pm, got off at 10:30pm, often later.
I really loved that kind of shift. At the time I was an airline ticket agent at National Airport in Washington DC. Over the years in that job, I also worked morning shift, which meant I had to be at work as early as 6:30am, sometimes earlier. I also worked what we called "turnaround" meaning working late the night before, and early morning the next day. Scheduled off at 11pm, back the next morning at 6:30 am. And that's assuming the evening flights were all on time and we actually got to go home at 11pm. Lots of times the flights were delayed and we left a lot later.
One time I worked a turnaround where two flights were cancelled, we booked them on the flight the next day (back then flights were not totally full), gave them vouchers for a nearby hotel, and then went home. Except I didn't go home. I elected to sleep on the cot we had in our back room, because I knew that taking the bus home, then taking the bus back the next morning, would give me much less sleep time than sleeping on that cot. I had a friend, Ollie, who worked overnight at one of the rental car counters. I asked him to please wake me up in the morning. Ollie woke me up with a cup of coffee, which was wonderful. What a fabulous man. Oh, and that next morning, the delayed passengers on the previous night's flight all said, "Did you spend the night here?" I probably looked as if I had, although I told them no.

(66,316 posts)That kind of work takes some real gumption, and I applaud and admire everyone who can do it.
I'm a little afraid of flying, so any time we hit turbulence, I just look at the cabin staff. If they're not bothered by it, I know it's all right.

(203 posts)But my son was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma in 2016. Last year it started to invade his skull base and he had gamma knife radiation. Which is very expensive even with medicare. Good news it did stop the progression of his cancer. Washington State University is the best.
I'm in CA so it's only 10:38 here
Edit to add. I'm luckier than most, since I'm healthy and like my job. Have a great husband so we were in a position to help my son.

(203 posts)But Im luckier than a lot of others. I have a great husband, I'm in good health and like my job. I'm greatfull to have been able to help my son. So many others do not have the means to enable them to help when it is needed.

(25,841 posts)I myself retired a while back. I'm 74 right now, and I often say that I've never had a job that was better than not working.

(33,320 posts)Night before last, an owl landed in a grapevine no more than 20 feet from me. It was a loud but pleasant sound. I was listening to music in my garage. Muted it while the owl was talking.

(2,293 posts)Im retired, praise be, so the insomnia that usually wakes me around 2 most mornings doesnt much bother me. I read a bit, and DU is always here.Im hiking in the morning with a friend so I better not linger here though.
Hope your Friday is a good one. Night night!

The conference room A/C is trying its best, but its not enough.

(113,251 posts)One should not be subjected to inferior coffee.
But do not forget that some of the desert tribes drink hot mint tea.

couple just before they left until October (they help take care of 100 year old mom, who lives in the neighborhood, a couple of months a year) I think he really wanted to know more about why my card says Applied Mythology and Ritual Studies on it, but he and hubby had a Buddhist connection and hubby was on a roll. His wife does a version of Reiki, which Id like to explore. Can hardly wait until October.
Went to my docs office in midweek to see if he had anything to add to what the out of town ER doc said a week prior, but ended up with the PA. Shes fabulous she really listens, and converses. Bumped up my BP med and prescribed nitroglycerin for the chest pain which likely was an outsize esophageal spasm. I scared my family, and theyre the ones who made me go to the ER.
The change in BP med was immediately helpful. My stress-response to DU had gotten so bad over the last several months I really thought I was going to have to give it up. Seriously give up DU.
You probably did not need or want to know any of this, but in answer to your query I think this weekend should definitely be better. And the book is one of my & hubbys faves: Good Omens by Pratchett and Gaiman. Witty, tender, wry, intelligent.
Be well, Aristus.
