Dove hunter shoots at doves...

Misses the fucking irony of shooting at a symbol of peace.

Just a thought that came to me tonight after sitting in a college classroom with said dove hunter as he explained his hunting exploits.

Also there is some good news: he's planning on joining the air force. Should we send out the bulletin to avoid releasing doves at weddings?

Sort of a gamey chicken.

What are people supposed to do where doves are overpopulating?

Oops, looks like we got another anti-hunting zealot.

Most of the places where dove hunters hunt are fields that are baited to attract them.

But don't worry, the meat you eat from Safeway is all organic.

Dove/Pigeon/Squab is delicious when cooked right. I've eaten it several times in various Asian dishes, and have had a couple of French dishes that included it, and it was great (tasted like the dark meat on a chicken). In fact, I've only disliked it once, and that was after an idiot tried to BBQ it like a chicken.

You go get a pigeon from under the power lines, 2 rocks, and an onion. Put all ingredients in a Mr. Coffee maker half full of water and cook until the meat falls off the bone, or you can't stand the smell anymore.

dove does actually taste pretty good. I had the opportunity to eat dove a few times when I was younger. A friend of my Dad would send us some dove and quail.

With few exceptions, wedding doves die within a week of release. Rice is also bad because birds don't digest it well. Unsalted, unbuttered, popcorn is a great alternative. A lot more than just birds can eat it and it's not harmful in any way. Rain turns it to mush and it decomposes quickly.

I love to eat meat. I love to shoot guns. But I will be the first to admit there are some thngs I don't like to eat and don't like to kill. I could kill Mexican dove but not white doves. Ducks but not wild geese. Can eat most fish but not sharks or dolphins or whales.

If I could not eat it, I won't kill it.

Eurasian Collared-Doves conquering America
January 17, 2011

No species of bird has colonized North America at the speed with which the Eurasian Collared-Dove (Streptopelia decaocto) has marched across the continent. First found nesting just south of Miami, Florida, in 1982, this non-native dove has rapidly adapted to human-altered environments from Florida to Alaska. FeederWatch has provided a crucial source of information on this invasion and insight into how this invader may be affecting populations of native doves.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasian_Collared-Dove

They seem to be crowding out the native doves where I live, but I'm not inclined to eat them even though I'm a vegetarian most days.

I suppose it would be more ethical for me to eat collared doves than factory farm chicken.
