Well, OK, hate is a strong word. There were a few parts that I liked, but overall I didn't really care for the movie.
The cinematography was too flashy and seemed seizure inducing at parts. The acting was decent. I did enjoy seeing Mr. Spock, the real one, not the young one.
I don't care for the reboot wiping out all the history that came before it, though. While I understand the necessity of it, it just seems kind of cheap to me.
And that, my friends, is my take on it.

(46,262 posts)I've been a Trekkie since 1966.
And I didn't like the movie at all.
Too much lens flare, shakeycam and revisionism.

(16,862 posts)That they've just invalidated every Star Trek show. Nothing is as it was or could be. Kinda irritating.

(47,675 posts)There's a scene where Kirk and Spock do the entire Vulcan ship thing using Scottie's voice. I'm amazed that they got through it without totally losing it.

(19,782 posts)The more times I watched the more I became aware of all the subtle homages to the original series. And the retcons started entertaining me more and bothering me less.

(1,837 posts)Cheeky, irreverent, beautiful to look at, never stopped moving. TOS will always be there to enjoy; Star Trek as a going concern needed a kick in the ass. I think Wil Wheaton said it best: "If you were distracted by the lens flares, You're Doing It Wrong."
Star Trek is not a documentary. It's a myth about the future and like all myths, it's retold as needed.

(28,552 posts)... back in the tube. There will never be another series with the simple charm of the original series IMHO.
