From columnist Rex Huppke, one of my favorite people on Twitter. I've posted a lot of his tweets in General Discussion, but like the tweets with Tom Nichols' cat, this one belongs here in the Lounge.

You’ll have to find your own heating vent to sit on, this one is mine.

EDIT: The sweetie above is named Rosie, and was adopted thanks to Twitter. It's a great story tweeted by Rex Huppke In August 2020, and that Twitter thread starts with the tweet below. I tried to create a Threadreader page for anyone who won't click Twitter links, but Threadreader couldn't, said the tweet was too old. And this thread is "about how Twitter isn't always a total Dumpster fire" - as the first tweet says:

3. When I was a kid

My house was really cold in the mornings
There would be frost on the inside of my bedroom window and I could see my cats breath next to me. The neat part of this is every morning there would be a new and beautiful pattern of ice on my window. I always looked at it a few minutes before getting up.

My mom would fire up the furnace ,meanwhile when I got out of my covers it would be so damn cold I would sit next to the heat vent in the living room and hold my cat close to me to warm us both up enough to be able to control the violent shivering before I dared take off my PJ's and get dressed for school in my freezing room.

Our house was a piece of shit btw.
Winters just sucked. On days it was like 0 degrees,it was really bad.

too when I was a kid and really hot in the summer-I hated summer because my room was so hot. Not as bad as yours though. Once my sister and I got married and moved out, they got central air/heat. Guess that’s one way to get the kids to leave home
