Mostly I've noticed this with newscasters or weather forecasters.

(126,336 posts)Same with the colour lobby. Every year experts get together and decide what colors are in in cars and appliances, what colours are out. They sell more stuff if the fashions change. Tight men's suits have been around for a decade.

(2,158 posts)and now it is much smaller than when I first bought it.
And clothes aren't the only thing getting smaller. The type in books used to be easy to read, now it is much too small to read easily.
I tell you, the world is going to hell in a handbasket.

(6,420 posts)That style looked really bad even on skinny guys like Colbert or Noah. Everything looks like everyone is 30 pounds too heavy
It looks as if any one of them exhaled/inhaled deeply, theyd pop their buttons.

(36,922 posts)I suspect this might be an example of how a suit is not supposed to fit.
Personally I can get by just fine with off the rack suits which are adjusted to fit. Some people may be best served with a fully bespoke suit.

(97,018 posts)That some, like Steven Colbert, have a paunch and it seems to be in the way at times. He can never decide whether to keep it buttoned or unbuttoned.

(10,378 posts)although suit fit has never been great. Nowadays they are too short and often too tight. I actually see this more often amongst celebrities than in real life. The too short jacket drives me CRAZY. I worked in Men's Clothing for awhile in the '80's, so I'm cursed with always noticing this sort of thing. Both the pictured dudes look like they outgrew their jackets.

(26,802 posts)My initial thought was either buy a suit that fits or unbutton it. It looks ridiculous as if their stomachs are too fat.

(30,757 posts)Even the high-priced ones. Glad I'm retired and don't have to put one on every day.

(70,182 posts)Like everything else, you get what you pay for. A cheap suit with cheap finishing would look awful on Jason Momoa.
I spend a little extra, and get a great suit with great tailored finishing. They can last me for decades with proper care.

(70,182 posts)It was actually my marriage-proposal suit, and I liked it a lot. Purchased in it 1999, and a few years later, I didn't see anyone anywhere wearing a four-button suit. I got rid of it, and I'm sticking to the classics from now on.

(70,182 posts)Now it's a tight-fitting cut. Neither is especially flattering.
I always go for a classic moderate cut for my suits. That way, I don't have to change them from year to year.

(28,004 posts)It really bugs me. Yesterday I pointed out to my husband the NBC weatherman's suit: ridiculously tight, button straining, too short. Looks really uncomfortable, and gaining a pound or two is out of the question. Not flattering. A sausage busting out of its casing.
Now the husband's retired, but he used to come home from clothes shopping empty handed because of the tight-fit trend that young men like. He finally sprung for a custom made suit. The trend has jumped the shark. Only a matter of time for baggy to come around again.
