(4,033 posts)7. Back in 1962, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, my beloved Uncle.......
was a heavy drinker (he's been sober now, AA member for over 40 years) was sent by his then wife to the grocery store. She told him to buy the essentials(you know, things like milk and bread). he came home with 7 cases of beer. She started to yell at him & said "the essentials, I told you." He just looked at her and said "that's what I brought."
As I said it was his "then" wife. I love that story.

1. The Russians always claimed that copious amounts of alcohol prevented radiation poisoning.
2. If there had been nuclear war between the US and Russia, you might as well have gone out stinking drunk!
