A short while after it aired, I began watching Deadwood. I LOVE the series. It is one of the best acted and written series that I've ever seen. That viewpoint has not wavered.
The first time I viewed it, I was uncomfortable with "how" human beings were treated by those in power. I was disturbed with how little a human life was worth. This hasn't changed.
What HAS changed is that I can no longer watch Deadwood. I cannot watch while women are being abused. I cannot watch while people are being killed for NO reason at all. I can no longer watch while lives are being changed forever for money.
Maybe I have evolved or it could be that I am just less tolerant. I do not know for sure.

(5,761 posts)many TV series about bad guys ran its course. I too don't like to see abuse, bad behavior and killing being glorified. Too much bad stuff going on in real life, I guess.

(8,002 posts)...even though I can watch movies that have some level of violence. If I see gratuitous abuse, especially of women, I have to turn it off. Unfortunately that is what many movies feature nowadays.
It is amazing to me how puritanical we are about sex in movies on television but how liberal we are about the most disgusting violence.
It really is sick.
