Got my daily call from the is-the-lady-of-the-house-there stalker. He's been asked nicely to stop calling, and doesn't identify himself
So, I did answer with hello. Then, "Baca!? Baca?"
This is a made-up word. He seemed taken aback, then said he was taking note of what I said.then hung up.
Abuse of a utility?

(37,714 posts)If I manage to get a telemarketer, I just hang up during that blank space at the beginning of the call. Most are probably paid shit wages, with little to no benefits. I won't add to their misery.

(22,636 posts)The calls are computer-generated and are programmed for specific responses. If you answer is outside of their expectations, it gets funny.
And old, really fast.
I dont know how to get rid of them because the calls seem to come from different numbers each time.

(14,493 posts)wasted call the less opportunity they have to scam someone else.
So when they would call I would say
"YES! I want to talk to you" but just hold on a second, ok?
I would put the phone down and just continue with what I was doing. After about a min or so I would here the beep, beep, beep that they had hung up.. After a while the word got out and the spam calls went way down. My action? I don't know but it was fun!

(12,461 posts)I put on my mechanical voice and tell them that they have reached an anti spam number and that their system has just been infected with a virus. They can call me back at 3AM and I will give them instructions as to were they can deposit money before I give them the code to remove virus.

(51,308 posts)I say "'Mother's maiden name' Mortgage" How can I direct your call? When there's a pause, as there invariably is, I repeat the greeting.
I use a very cheerful business like tone.
They always hang up lol. I figure my mom would get a kick out of my using her maiden name as the name of a fictitious company.

(12,217 posts)now-daughter-in-law was fresh out of high school and just starting college, she needed a job to get by, and out of desperation became a part-time telemarketer. She said that because of all the insults she got from the other end of the line, it was the most depressing time of her life.
One day, a man who'd answered the phone changed that. He told her she sounded like a nice person, someone who he thought could find a better, more satisfying job, and he suggested some places she could apply.
She thanked him and quit her telemarketer job that very day. As the man had suggested, she applied for a part-time job at a nursing home. She was hired, and she worked there throughout her college years.
Instead of blowing up at her on the phone or insulting her, the man - she never knew his name -made a positive difference in her life.

(12,998 posts)I feel for them. If I thought it would work, I'd do that. I'm always polite, but begging them to please take me off their calling list. I suffer from very bad anxiety and someone asking for the lady of the house unnerves me. He's been doing this for years.
I'd have more respect if he said, Hi, this is Chad from Superior Warranties or something.
