Fire all Gen Z bartenders!

They are universally terrible. All they do is stand around staring at their phones or gossiping with their equally vapid co-workers about their tattoos or something.
Actually the drinking age should be raised to 30. Stop these criminals before they order another chocolate martini!

1. Nah, let 'em be

Just tell the barkeep to leave the bottle in front of you and you'll keep track of your drinks. (wink)

Look at the prices of oil, plastics, and chemicals derived from oil.

Plastic is around 30% more expensive since Nov 2020.

4. I want a bartender that when I ask them what they do, they look at me like I'm nuts ...

... and say, "What? I'm a bartender." Not a student, a musician, a writer, a dancer, an actor, saving for a car or a house - anything but maybe "a lawyer trying to pass the bar exam."

6. Years ago I was at an Itzhak Pearlman concert at the Bushnell

Auditorium in Hartford. I rushed out at intermission to reach the lobby bar
I said to the old guy pouring drinks: 'Give me a Rob Roy!'
He gave me a hard look for a few seconds and then said: 'I haven't heard that drink order in twenty years!'
Of course he made it perfectly. Old bartenders are the cat's Meow!

15. I had a similar experience ordering a Rob Roy at a jazz club.

I was 21 years old.

The bartender was probably my grandfather's age.

He was so happy!

I still remember his delight to this day.....30 years on!

I actually think everybody under 30 should be taken into mandatory re-education camps in order to rid them of their shallow narcissism and aspirations to victimhood.

Never trust anyone under 30!

8. Oh, please!

A chocolate martini is actually a thing?

It's been a long time since I sat on a barstool. The Gen-Zers were all in their Huggies yet. I don't feel qualified to comment on them, but I can comment on something as horrid as a 'chocolate martini'. What a devastating waste of liquor. A martini isn't supposed to taste like candy.

What has become of today's young people.

A chocolate martini is alcohol for people not old enough to appreciate the taste of alcohol.

14. The Martini went downhill

as soon as the first person thought they could be made with Vodka.

I blame James Bond. Skaken, not stirred will ruin a Martini made with Gin.

17. If shaken, a Martini is properly called a Bradford (I grew up in London with a father

who worked his way through some of his uni degrees as a sommelier/bartender and also, in Paris, as the main assistant to the sous-chef of a one Michelin-starred resto.

Food and booze are religion in the household of my upbringing, lol.

18. Shaking a Gin Martini, especially vigorously,

ruins a good Gin. It will appear cloudy due to tiny bubbles the shaking causes. This is known as bruising the Gin. It's not a problem with Vodka.

39. I think vodka martinis became the default at many bars

Because the difference between good gin and cheap gin is dramatic, taste wise, whereas cheap vodka in a cocktail will probably go unnoticed.

42. I think you are correct.

Vodka also mixes well with other flavors. This allows a Vodka "menu". Let's face it, a Gin Martini is a Gin Martini. You can use different garnishes, vary the amount of Vermouth, add a little Olive Oil and that's about it. No one wants a Chocolate Gin Martini. I get that.

The other thing is, Gin has a love it or hate it flavor for most people. I was disgusted with the first one I tasted. It was cheap Gin and poorly made. I didn't acquire a taste for Gin until I had top notch Gin and a Martini that was properly made. Today the craft Gin market has exploded. I've tasted a few and loved them, I wish I could afford to keep many of them on my shelf, but my retirement budget won't allow that. I have stuck with Tanqueray for nearly 50 years and still enjoy it.

31. Nothing.

It's just not a true classic Martini. But drink what you like. That's what's important.

The problem is in all those James Bond movies, He would say "shaken, not stirred" so many bartenders think that's what you do with all Martinis. It's okay with Vodka, but it affects good Gin in a negative way. It seems when I order one in a bar, if I don't specify to stir it, not shake it, they will shake it just about every time.

38. Well, my Dad's been dead for 25 years...

and I haven't had a drink in 23 years due to medication issues. I used to be a Remy-Martin man when I drank. I know, Cognac vs. Brandy. There's not much difference between the two. Not all Brandys are Cognacs, but all Cognacs are Brandys. At least that's what I was told by a Manhattan bartender/sommelier.

Thanks for the tip though. If I ever start drinking again I'll keep it in mind.

41. I am so sorry about your father, regardless of the timespan since his passing.

You are correct about brandy and Cognac.

Brandy has many subtypes, such as Armagnac, Cognac, etc, plus the many types of eau de vie, such as pomace (grappa, marc, etc, and also rye pomace, etc) and the myriad number of fruit brandies, like calvados (apple) and slivovitz (plum), etc .

A Ginger-tini. It was a super sweet drink that consisted of Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur, Kahlua Gingerbread, and vodka. Needless to say, I had two.

27. Agreed...fellow Gen Xer...

I grew up hearing "when I was your age" and vowed to never be that person. My taste in music, art, movies...everything...was ridiculed and even forbidden. I thought of my parents and other "old" people as shallow and grumpy.

I will listen to new music, eat new food, experience new things until I die. I might not agree with it all or come close to understanding their reasons for some things. It's not my problem nor theirs.

I also actually love Chocolate Martinis, though I prefer a "real" Martini...with gin.

Anyway...a lot of the Gen Zers are pretty good kids. Smart, environmentally conscious, concerned about the future of humanity. Don't care if they can't serve me a drink.

Cheers to all ages...old, young, and ageless.
