What does your pet do to keep cool? Twilight has taken to trying to lick my popsicles. She also

sleeps right on the floor instead of up high. I guess being king of the mountain that cats like goes out the window when you a furball and it is 96 degrees outside.

1. They'll sometimes lie on the floor. But 1 of my dogs is cold natured, so she doesn't get hot...

unless it's pretty warm. I have to worry about her more in the winter.

My cocker spaniel, who is heat sensitive, pants a lot, if it's the slightest bit warm. So I lock him up in "momma's bedroom" during the day, where I have a window a/c to keep it cooler than rest of the house, AND I keep the ceiling fan on. Just to make sure he's comfortable.

I also use satin cotton sheets on the bed, with no coverlet, because it's cooler than even a cotton lightweight coverlet, which is what MY preference would be.

What can I say? I love 'em. They're rescues. They deserve to have a good life.

2. The cats often sleep on the bathroom floor.

I found one of them sleeping in the bathroom sink yesterday.

4. One of the dogs lies in front of the AC vent.

Two of them love to eat ice cubes. Every time I open the freezer door, they come scampering for ice.

The third one sleeps on the bathroom floor, with her back against the tub.

They have thick coats so they go out and back in as quickly as possible.

5. My dog won't stay outside when its hot for more than a minute or two.

It's out and right back in. Whereas in cooler times of the year, I often have to physically drag him back in.

Since the house is small and this is Michigan, where in a normal year it often isn't hot many days, I don't have central air, just a large window unit. He sleeps mostly in that room anyway, on the couch or in his fold-up kennel in the corner, so cool isn't an issue.

6. Fortunately, my dogs are in A/C

all day so they do not have to deal with the heat. They are small dogs and do their business on pee pads. But they do go out on a leash in the afternoon.

7. The sheltie sleeps directly over the AC vent and the border collie turtles on the ceramic tile floor

8. One of my Jack Russells jumps into the water troughs whenever she gets too hot

paddles around a bit and then jumps out. She's also the one who sticks her whole face into water bowls and blows bubbles.

The other one loves to jump in the creek. Sometimes he'll follow his sister into the trough but usually he's my creek dog.

My older mutt loves to snap at the sprinkler water like she's trying to catch it and drink it. Mostly though she cools off by staying in the AC on the bathroom tile floor.

9. One sleeps on the tile near a vent. The other sleeps under a blanket...

the lab is skinny and cold natured. She has a blanket year round and I have been tempted to get her a snuggie. She will glare at us if we don't cover her up! And she'll snuggle the other dog when she's really desperate.
