Anyone a Fan of Brooklyn Nine-Nine?

The trailer for the eighth and final season dropped today.

I am really going to miss this show. It was always a guaranteed mood-lifter. I love the diversity of the cast, the 180 turn on stereotypes, (Is there any human less flamboyant than Raymond Holt?) and the loyalty-except-for-Halloween-heist evident within the squad.

Intellectually, I understand why it seems so tough to make a cop comedy right now with the ugly truth about systemic police brutality finally being communicated (a little) to White, mainstream America. But the show managed to thoughtfully approach some sensitive issues during earlier seasons. Ending this television series isn't going to make police in this country any better, but it will make television a little worse.

Just my two-cents, for what it's worth.

(Two-cents, I guess.)

4. It helps to have DVDs. . .

. . . and subtitles, sometimes. The pacing of the show and the dialog is quick, I have missed a few jokes the first time around.

Speaking of subtitles, the Season 7 DVD set doesn't have them. It was bad enough that there were no extras, but the lack of subtitles seems like a slap to hearing impaired people.

3. I binged it on Peacock this summer. I'd never been a real fan of Andy Samberg on SNL

but he was cast perfectly for this. And yes, having just seen this very dignified actor, Andre Braugher (who plays Raymond Holt) on Law & Order SUV and other very serious shows, I found him an unexpected choice at first, but no, he is perfect!

Sorry to see it end, too.

5. I saw Andy Samberg on

a movie I LOVED last year on Hulu, Palm Springs. I became a HUGE fan of his. I think he's very, very talented.

I have access to Brooklynn Nine-Nine and have been meaning to watch it- I think it has the quirky humor that I really enjoy.

Thanks for the review!

8. I watch it on HUlu. It is my "Go To" when

I am in a bad mood and need something that doesn't require much brain power. Not bingeing but it is a delight when I need it.

9. Shared a joke with a friend. . .

Who is "aware" of the show in the hopes of getting her to watch it.

The whole 99 squad is bunked down in the living room of people who own a cattle-breeding operation. The sounds of mooing fill the air.

Peralta says to Holt: "I can't tell if those are sounds of pleasure or pain."

Holt [deadpan, 'cause, Holt] "I hear they're into leather."

If that doesn't inspire someone to check out Brooklyn Nine-Nine then I do not know what else would. And speaking of checking stuff out, there are a lot of fun video compilations of B99 stuff over at Youtube. There are also some thoughtful examinations of the deeper value of the series in their presentation of LBGTQ characters.

11. Thoughts on the Season Eight opener?

Some folks are complaining that the "Woke Brigade" has ruined it. Others feel the show didn't go far enough and that B99 is still, ultimately, "Copaganda".

My take on the show in general is that in matters of the heart (not referring solely to romance, here) Brooklyn Nine-Nine has always been touchingly real. In every other way, it's absurd and wacky and should not be taken seriously. . . Which is why it's so much fun.

The first episode of this last season stays true to this formula.
