This is starting to be an unusually good day, for me.

First I found a manager's special on organic, grass fed ground beef for .99/lb (use by today so it's already in the freezer) and now I've received a 20% off coupon from Big Lots, just in time because I am running out of dry food for the Ferals. (They are not fans of the quality dry food I got at a BOGO sale. They prefer 9 Lives or Meow Mix so I'll get a big bag of each) Oh, and I've stubbed the same toe TWICE without breaking it. That's pretty much a record, for me.

And, yes, the bar for what fills me with glee is getting lower and lower.

As for good starts to the day....
I lost my keys.
Then I found them.
This might not seem like a big deal, but while they were lost, I was so full of self-loathing, not to mention sure that senility had arrived. Found the keys, and I love myself again

I'm so easy.

I did walk into my veg garden, started to weed and got NAILED by something - maybe a bee, maybe a ground hornet. I'm not sure. I applied a poultice and headed back out, only to get attacked by nasty biting ants. So, the cosmos is letting me know I should NEVER get too optimistic about life.

The poultice took the pain from REALLY, REALLY, REALLY bad to now REALLY, REALLY bad, but easing. Still red and swollen. Fortunately I have no allergies.

I think it's a safe bet I'm going to take a break, for a while, and then more to a completely different garden. I wonder if Chardonnay eases pain and swelling...................

Ya know how they talk about jungle animals attacking in Costa Rica.

Well it’s ANTS that are the scourge here.

There’s a million kinds and you can’t walk barefoot or sit in the grass to play with your dog. The smallest ones bite the worst.

Grrrrrr.

I've never had a bee sting hurt like this, although it is getting better, along with the swelling and inflammation. I think I'll wear a long sleeved shirt when I go back out.

And those damn biting ants!! I didn't see anything until I pulled up a clump of weeds and then THOUSANDS of them came swarming out,

until I got stung by one when trimming bushes and trees at the edge of our property. It was dark, so I really didn't see anything. But PAIN is an understatement. The place where I was stung was hot, red, and swollen. Stayed that way for a good long while, even after I applied my "go to" bug bite duo. You could still see some swelling the next day, tho the pain was at passable levels by then.

Geesh... I'm 65. Learn something new everyday. Lessons like that, I'd like to avoid in the future, tho!

I think I'm just going to drag the lawn mower into that part of the garden. It's a strip I don't plant and if I don't keep on top of it, the weeds get out of control, really quickly. Which is what has happened. In fact, I think I'll mow it, hit it with some home made weed killer and then cover it with some black plastic sheeting so that I don't have to 'endanger' myself, again.
