Didn’t know stuff like that?

Anyway this clip would go in his media book if he was my kid.

4. When I was a kid life was so much simpler

We got two TV channels - the regular one and the educational one - pre-PBS. That was it, so picking which channel was easy - you walked to the TV - pre-remote - turned the dial until something showed up on the screen.

We could have gotten a couple more channels, but Dad would have had to climb on the roof to turn the antenna. Since Mom & Dad wanted to get the educational channel more than they did the two channels that were a different direction, it stayed in that spot. We never had cable in that house.

5. Isn't that the truth!

My kids couldn't believe that while I was growing up we had to walk over the set to switch the channels! The humanity!! I think we had the three networks and the educational channel, as well. Sis and I didn't watch much except cartoons on Saturday morning.

6. I hated tv

When I was a kid. I mostly thought of it as a cartoon machine that kept my brothers out of my hair. I was in my room behind a book-stacked desk, studying the world’s great religions.

That’s funny about your dad being happy with the two channels.

8. I was a book kid, too - but was usually in the Florida room with the TV on, reading

My parents would be reading, doing crossword puzzles, or whatever, so we kids grew up with the TV as background noise while we did our homework, read, or worked on projects.

That was in the evenings - during the day we were feral creatures, outside running around the undeveloped city park next door, dodging the alligators and cotton mouth moccasins.

I guess that is why Dad was fine with two channels - he only sometimes actually watched something. The non-educational channel was the CBS station and I think Dad liked their nightly news better than NBC or ABC who he thought were too liberal.
