7. Many do not know who Betty was?..She was a cartoon character in the 30s...(not sure..maybe 40s?)

Betty was created by Fleisher Studios...founders ..Max Fleischer, Dave Fleischer

...Fleisher created a number of .."Superman" cartoons in the 40s that are very special in my opinion..
I think Betty Boop is probably at the library somewhere, if not on TV. A wonderful character I might
add....I might add that cartoons are my hobby, & I have a whole lot of toons..on tape & discs.
...Not a few, but a whole lot...hundreds of toons on tape & disc.

21. Started in the late 20s actually

And was actually a dog character to begin with. Fleischer Studio was involved in a lawsuit concerning her. Vaudeville singer Helen Kane (the Boop-Oop-A-Doop Girl) claimed her mannerisms, voice, and signature line were copied by Fleischer. Fleischer countered that Kane had copied her act from a Black vaudeville singer, Baby Esther and might have been cooked up the studio since she was conveniently believed to be in Paris at the time. In the end, Kane lost her case as her baby-style of singing was quite popular at the time.

That's the one with the fourth-wall violation: two kids are watching a Road Runner cartoon wondering why the coyote chases the Road Runner. The Coyote stops and pulls out a meat chart that explains all the flavors you'll find in one.

24. Oh, man, so many

I can sit and watch cartoons all day. Start with Betty Boop and Fleischer's Superman. Popeye. Warner Brothers cartoons. I was never a big fan of Mickey Mouse/Donald Duck cartoons. They never appealed to me though the Disney movies are great. Animaniacs. The 1990s Batman. Watched Pink Panther with my dad (it was his favorite cartoon). On the internet, Homestar Runner was probably the best use of the now-defunct Flash technology. Daria appealed to my cynicism. Even though it's more bloody than I like the Harley Quinn cartoon is hilarious because of the Poison Ivy character and just the absurd way it turns the whole superhero cartoon genre on its head - a villain is kicked out of the Legion of Doom (who holds a press conference to do so) because he called Wonder Woman the c-word while they were battling each other. The LOD, by the way, is in a protracted legal battle with a sex shop down the street from it called Legion of Dildos. Aquaman gets defeated because he's distracted by a villain being mean to fish. Archer is similar in its humor.

If not, I highly, highly recommend it! It has to be watched in order, the story builds and builds incredibly as the seasons progress. Judging by your list, we seem to have the same taste in cartoons and I think you’d enjoy the heck out of it.

53. No, I've heard of it, but I haven't settled down to watch it

I'm about to get into Birdgirl which is a continuation of Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law. I forgot about that one and Space Ghost: Coast to Coast. The first episode was mainly hits for me, and I'd like to see where they go.

Some hidden gems on YouTube for me include Metal Family, which is a Russian series about a family whose dad is a kind of glam-rock musician who fell in love with a biker chick. They've come out with an English version of their past videos though I prefer the Russian with subtitles even though sometimes the translation is a little off. The voices seem to fit better. And then the Vampair series which is about a feud between a male and female vampire. They're called fan animations - cartoons done to songs the animator likes. Most I've seen are one-offs or follow the plot of where they're taken from - like "Way Down Hadestown" animatic from the Hadestown musical, but the Vampair series takes songs and fits them into the story the animator wants to tell. The animator is into goth culture so she uses a lot from a singer called Voltaire but has also introduced me to a LGBTQ singer Lily Allen as well as the electric swing genre.

If you've got a couple hours - I'd recommend looking at Metal Family and Vampair. I'll put Venture Brothers on my list.

29. Well my favorite right now

is anything voiced by H. Jon Benjamin.

That list includes, but is not limited to, The Devil (From Lucy, Daughter of the Devil), Sterling Mallory Archer, Bob Belcher, Coach McGuirk, Ben Katz (brother of Dr Katz), Carl the convenience store guy on Family Guy, The Master (Venture Brothers), Talking Cabbage on American Dad, many voices on Aquateen Hunger Force and also the mayor and other voices on Assy McGee.

With Archer and Bob at the top but not by much.

But for non-Jon characters of course I love Bart and Lisa Simpson. Space Ghost, Brak and Zorak from Space Ghost Coast to Coast. Officer Ponchiarelli from CHIPS was a pretty good voice on Sealab 2021 but it's been a good long while so i forget his character's name. But that whole show was great so everyone on Sealab 2021.

The Critic as voiced by Jon Lovitz
Duckman and his loyal but long-suffering partner, Cornfed Pig.

And, finally, I'm developing a man crush on Beef Tobin of The Great North (I mean come on, It's Nick Offerman. I already had a man crush on him anyway.) The rest of the cast is great too.

35. Pinky and the Brain....totally forgot...great toon characters ..from "Animaniacs"

Somewhere down in the ...."vault" I have most, if not all, of the episodes of .".Animaniacs"

"We are the Animaniacs..."...etc....great episodes, satire on everything and anything..beyond the beyond...
...If you have never seen, "Animaniacs" go to the library or order on line all the episodes...

For those who don't know the executive producer...in charge...was ...Stephen Spielberg...
and he did a great job on most episodes..and higherd great talent to write, and direct those toons..

The "satire was incredible".....That show took aim at every idea or show that you could think of...................including themselves....................and to answer a question raised..............

Yes, I am pondering what you are pondering.......one short story on ...Pinky & The Brain..
was a great take off of the .....famous ..War of the World's..radio reenactment by... Orson Welles

If I recall.....the "Brain" was supposed to be a reincarnation of Orson Wells

65. I wish we had kept all those books and comics

I was speaking with a former student one day last week - his mom is Jamaican - his dad from Peru - they met in Valencia, Spain. When they moved to Jamaica for High School he remembers learning English with the pile of Archie comics his grandfather would buy him and his sister on weekends. Of course the comics were supplemental but he insists that the comics and cartoons did more for his English than the school books.
